The Science of Storytelling, Cooking Camps and more!
It's in fact quite simple. If we listen to a powerpoint presentation with boring bullet points, our language processing parts in the brain (where we decode words into meaning) gets activated. And that's it, nothing else happens.
When we are being told a story, things change dramatically. Not only are the language processing parts in our brain stimulated, but any other area in our brain that we would use when experiencing the events of the story are activated too. For example, if someone tells us about how delicious certain foods were, our sensory cortex lights up. If it's about motion, our motor cortex gets active. Not only is storytelling fun and entertaining, it also helps activate the different areas of our brain to engage with the world around us for both the storyteller and the listener. Full article here.
Everyone has a story to tell. This summer, children will have the opportunity to create and share their stories all week long at our very own Storytelling Camp! June 20-24, 1-4pm for Ages 8+.
