All About Families
This week we focused on our Scholastic News topic, which was all about families! The Scholastic News focused on different types of families in the animal world. We learned about elephant herds, interesting insects and even animals that adopt other animals!
Math
We did our first real world experience this week. The children were given 10 unifix cubes to use at different game stations. Each station costs them different amounts of unifix cubes. The children had to use all of their unifix cubes and record which games they went to and how many cubes they used. They were also required to have fun! We will graph our findings of our favorite game later in the unit.
Writing
Having your characters talk and show feelings was a mini lesson this week. We made a list of feelings that first graders would have then we went back into our stories and found words that showed emotions. Once we found them, we put little heart stickers or paw print stickers by them. If a student couldn't find an emotion, he/she knew that to make their narrative more exciting, they needed to add feelings!
Super Kids
We finished our Welcome Back Super Kids. We loved reviewing the letters and sounds and stories that went with our favorite characters. On to the Adventures of Super KIds!
Top Dog
Dakota was our Top Dog this week. She loves going to Disney World, her favorite movie is Frozen and she loves to eat hot donuts!
