Main Characters

Alex- He's a 16 year old who just wants to try and find his family.

Darla- She's a 18 year old who helps Alex out to find his family.

It was a typical day for Alex. His parents and his younger sister left to go to their uncle's farm in Warren Illinois. Alex didn't want to go with them so after a while his mother finally let him stay home. It should've been a normal weekend that was peaceful without them, but it wasn't. First of there was a loud noise and the house started to move then it caught on fire. At first Alex thought it was a earthquake but it wasn't. It was a volcano that erupted in Yellowstone all the way in California, and the ashes carried all of the way to Cedar Falls, Iowa. Since Alex's house burned down his neighbors decide to take him in during the ash fall. Alex stays there for a while until his neighbors do something that he doesn't like and he goes in search of his family. On his way to Warren he gets injured and stumbles onto Darla's and her mothers farm. Darla fixes up his injuries and he stays awhile until they heal. However though Alex, Darla, and a rabbit that she names Buck head out to find his family. The rest of the way is filled with struggles, deaths, and close calls, but will Alex ever find his family?

Likes and Dislikes

Things that I liked about the book was the way he described everything in the book because whatever Alex was doing you can imagine it in almost perfect detail. ANother thing that I like about the book is that no matter what Alex goes through he was determined to get to his family. The last thing that I like about the book is that its saying what probably will happen if an apocalypse ever happens on what its like to survive.

Things that I did not like about the book was that there was a lot of murders and he explained them in detail a little too much. Another thing that I didn't like about the book is the way that they talked about how they killed and skinned a rabbit in way too much detail. The last thing that I did not like about the book was that they had to commit so many murders to survive and protect themselves.
