4C Studio Launched!

Mike Arsenault, Tracy Weinrich and Merry Stuhr were the recipients of a Yarmouth Education Foundation grant in Spring 2016. Over the summer, the former HMS Library periodicals storage room was transformed into a studio that is designed to support and nurture the 4Cs:

Collaboration • Creativity • Communication • Critical Thinking

The key components of the room are: a table on wheels, seating for seven, a full-wall green screen, a 9-foot wide glass whiteboard, and a flat-screen monitor. Students are being introduced to the Studio and all that it offers, and it's already being put to great use! We will post photos from time to time so that you can watch the wonderful and creative ways that HMS students are utilizing this amazing space!

Thank you, YEF!!!

Books for Louisiana!

Charlotte Agell (Yarmouth GT Teacher) and Merry Stuhr (HMS Librarian) initiated a school-wide drive to collect books for schools that had been destroyed in the Louisiana floods. The entire HMS community rose to the occasion and donated over 1600 books! The PTO is generously assisting with the delivery of the books to our Louisiana contact who will distribute the books. A deep thanks to all who have played a part in sharing the love of reading with students in Louisiana.

Let the Wondering Begin!

The new fifth grade class at HMS is currently experiencing its first adventure in WONDERland with a mini-Inquiry project! In Yarmouth Schools, the Inquiry process involves:

Connect • Wonder • Investigate • Create Meaning • Express • Reflect

Fifth graders are being introduced to the Inquiry process through a project on a topic of interest, ranging from the Great Wall of China to carnivorous plants! See below for photos of students WONDERing about their topics during the last week of September.
