First Day Excitement
The first day of school is just 24 hours away! I hope your Second Grader is as excited as I am. As your child enters Second Grade with all of the physical school supplies, there are a few social, emotional, and academic supplies that are equally important. Your child should be prepared to work as part of a group and understand how to share space effectively. In order to maintain positive relationships with their peers, it is expected that they have a basic ability to understand, manage, and verbalize their emotions. While learning, Second Graders will be asked to set positive goals and use hard work to achieve them. Finally, It is also important for your child to share their imagination to work through all kinds of situations and become better problem solvers.
During the first two days of school, we will spend time investigating the classroom and learn how to navigate Stoy School from a new location. Being in the "tower" for the first time is a big deal. Knowing how to get to the important locations; the office, bathroom, lunchroom, and fire drill location is critical. On Friday, September 7th, we will mark the second day of Second Grade. Be sure to ask you child about some the fun activities we did. The class will also listen to several books that will ignite group discussions about what kind of friend and student they can be in Second Grade. I am looking forward to working together with your child to help build our classroom values.
An important note: we will have P.E. on the first day of school and students will need to have sneakers. If they are not part of your child's first day outfit, please have him/her bring them to school.
