ATHLETICS
Fall Sports Recaps
(NEW) Boys Cross Country Finishes 1st at Tri
The boys cross country team continued on their winning ways today, recording a near perfect score of 17. The top 6 runners for the Lightning of Gabe Mahlen (12th), Nate Getman (11th), Hunter Dunne (11th), Sam Setterlund (12th), Jack Hanson (10th), and Grant Piller (12th) ran a tight pack throughout most of the race. This group went out in pack with 4 runners from Shakopee intermixed with them as well. They came through the mile in approximately 5:11, and over the second mile the group of 6 Lightning runners were able to stay together, with only one competitor from Shakopee able to hang with them. After the two mile mark Mahlen picked up the pace, opening up a gap of 20 sec over the course of the final 1800m to continue his winning streak for the season. Getman and Dunne finished within 2 seconds of each other to take 2nd and 3rd. The scoring for the Lightning was rounded out by Setterlund and Hanson finishing in 5th and 6th.
The third wave for the Lightning, like the first wave, quickly established a dominant pack up front, and recorded a perfect score against their fellow third wave competitors from Eagan and Shakopee.
The Lightning compete on the same course Saturday, October 3rd.
(NEW) Boys 9A Soccer Team Wins Two in a Row
Eastview’s boys 9A soccer team hit the road last Friday to take on the Shakopee Sabers. Eastview put the ball in the net in the first minute of play and scored again when Neftali Bustos knocked it in unassisted off his own rebound 10 minutes into the first half. Bennett Haraldson received a nice dish and dribbled through several Shakopee players to put Eastview in the lead 4 to 0. Nichil Athmaram scored the Lightning’s fifth goal off a Saber pass up the middle. Shakopee was able to score late in the second half after some crosses in front of the net following their one and only corner kick of the game. Eastview dominated ball possession throughout most of the game and beat Shakopee 5 to 1.
The team travelled to Eagan on Monday to face the undefeated Wildcats 9A team. Eagan scored mid-way through the first half off a blooper kick in front of the net to put them in to the lead 1 to 0 at half. Your Lightning fought back hard and opened the second half strong. Forward Bennett Haraldson nailed a sweet cross from mid-fielder Michael Cherevatsky to tie the game 1 to 1 early in the second. Eastview brought back an Eagan corner kick, and Haraldson connected with forward Jestin Suarez-Kemp to take the lead 2 to 1. Strong play by Eastview’s defenders kept Eagan to one goal and helped seal the 2 to 1 win.
ARTS & ACTIVITIES
(NEW) Zach Prax - Class AA Speech Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Zach Prax who was recently named the 2020 Class AA Speech Coach of the Year by the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association. In June, Zach was named the Section 6AA Coach of the Year which is voted on by head speech coaches in the section. Every MSHSL section chooses a coach of the year, and those eight recipients are put on a ballot to be voted on by each member-coach in the entire statewide organization to determine one state coach of the year. Congratulations to Zach for this impressive honor. As stated by our Head Coach Ryan Roseen: “Zach does more for forensics than anyone in the state!”.
