rules, history, and relevance of true sports fans

Rules:

1. don't be a bandwagon fan

2. don't purchase a jersey and put your own name on the back

3. wear the jersey of the team that is playing

4. never root against your team or boo them

5. defend your team against critics

6. always root for your alma mater

history:

-sports fans became sports fans in the 1800s (this started with baseball)

-this gave them a reason to band together and unify because of all the tension going on at that time in America

relevance:

-sports are important today because they give people a reason to be apart of something that is bigger than themselves

-it has been found that sports fans see their teams as an expansion of their sense of self

-this gives people a greater sense of pride, identity, and belonging.
