The Double Eagle
September 10, 2021
News and Notes from Principal Friedman
PTA has a Sweet Treats program that provides yummy treats for our staff, it is a way to to thank our teachers and support staff at Double Eagle. Each month PTA will reach out to a grade level to provide COVID safe snacks/food. Please be on the lookout for more information. They are also looking for volunteers to help support this - let me know if you are interested and I can pass your information along.
A few parents asked about purchasing filtration systems for our school. I appreciate your generosity. APS has purchased UV Filtration units for each classroom. Ours are currently being installed. I anticipate this will take a few weeks as the process to install takes some time.
Fall photos will be taken at Double Eagle on September 14th. All students will be photographed and you will receive a proof to see your student's photo before you buy. They will be photographed on a green screen so please avoid green and you will be able to pic your background when you place your order. All you need to do is send your student dressed and ready for picture day.
Sibling photos will be offered 30 minutes before school starts. If you would like to have a sibling photo taken, please sign up for a time online no LATER than SEPTEMBER 12th at 8pm so that the photographer can preprint your information and we can keep some distance between families. To reserve a sibling time, visit https://www.kennethbrownphotography.com/double-eagle-siblings to setup a time.

Dear Double Eagle Families,
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we take the extra measures necessary to keep your children safe while in school. It takes all of us to ensure we can keep our children attending school in person. This year we all must be extra vigilant to make this happen, and we are asking for your help.
If your child has any symptoms that could be COVID related, please keep them home. If your child exhibits any COVID related symptoms while at school, they may be sent home for 10 days.
If you notice your child has ANY of the following symptoms at HOME, please keep your child home until symptoms are resolved or you have a confirmed PCR negative covid test.
-Temperature of 100.4 degrees of higher, chills
-Fatigue or muscle or body aches
-Sore throat, runny nose, congestion
- Cough
-Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
-Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
-Loss of taste or smell
-Headache
If you send your child to school with any of these symptoms, they will be sent to the nurse’s office to be assessed. You will receive a phone call to pick your child up per the APS Covid Guidelines if they exhibit covid-like symptoms. Your child will be required to stay home for 10 calendar days. They can return to school before their 10 day isolation period ends if a negative PCR COVID-19 test is provided and are fever free for 24 hours without using fever reducing medications and other symptoms are improving. (Please note the update that only PCR tests are accepted.)
To minimize the likelihood of your child being sent home for a 10 day quarantine, we ask that you do not send your children to school with the listed symptoms. Instead, keep them home for a day or two to monitor symptoms and see if symptoms resolve or need further testing.
If you child has seasonal/environmental allergies with symptoms that could mimic Covid symptoms, please consider giving your child allergy medication at home and communicating with the nurse. Simply stating that your child “just has allergies” and sending them to school with a cough or a runny nose will not be accepted. Students with allergies will be assessed on a case by case basis to determine if they need to go home if it is unclear that symptoms are due to allergies. (Sneezing and/or red/itchy eyes is not a covid symptom and your child will not be sent home for this)
Please ensure your child has a good night’s rest and eats breakfast in the morning. This will help prevent headaches and stomach aches during the school day. If your child has a headache at school that is not relieved by water, a snack, and a chance to rest, they may be sent home if another reason for the headache cannot be identified.
Please continue to take your child’s temperature daily and keep them home if they are running a fever. Identifying a fever is important, but keep in mind that it is not the only indicator of Covid. An individual can present with only mild, minor symptoms like a headache or a runny nose without a fever and still be Covid positive. Please take the minor covid symptoms just as serious as the severe covid symptoms.
Managing these symptoms at home will help reduce the number of days your child will have to miss school. It also reduces the chance that other students will have to miss school.
If your child is experiencing any symptoms, please contact the school nurse for advice and to discuss the best course of action. Please also contact the school nurse if your child has tested positive or has been a close contact with a covid positive case outside of school (sibling, sports, etc.)
