A Note from Mrs. Zellner and Mr. West
As winter break approaches, we'd like to wish all of you and your families a happy and safe holiday break! Winter break always seems to arrive just in the nick of time. Students, families, and staff alike have been in what feels like a sprint since September. We’ve celebrated successes together, solved problems together, and shared in a million moments and experiences that make Maple Dale such a big part of our lives. This is the time for all of us to take a deep breath, reflect, and rejuvenate. We hope that this break is an opportunity for you and your family to spend time together and that everyone will return on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 refreshed and ready to continue our awesome year of learning!
Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Solstice, New Year’s, or a combination of these and others, we wish you a restful winter break and a happy holiday season!
Mindy and Keena

Student Illnesses
It can be difficult to decide when and how long to keep an ill child home from school. The timing of the absence is often important in order to decrease the spread of disease to others and to prevent your child from acquiring any other illness while his/her resistance is lowered.
The following guidelines represent the more common childhood illnesses and the usual recommendations of the School Nursing Services, Hamilton County Office of Education.
FEVER: If your child's temperature is 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater (or 1 or 2 degrees above the child's normal temperature) s/he should remain home until s/he has been fever free without medication for a full 24 hours. Remember, fever is a symptom indicating the presence of an illness.
VOMITING AND DIARRHEA (INTESTINAL VIRAL INFECTIONS): Stomach ache, cramping, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea, possible fever, headache, and body aches. Your child should remain at home without vomiting, diarrhea, or fever for a full 24 hours. If your child has had any of these symptoms during the night s/he should not be sent to school the following day
FLU: Abrupt onset of fever, chills, headache, and sore muscles. Runny nose, sore throat, and cough are usual. Students should remain home from school until symptoms are gone and the child is without fever for 24 hours.
COMMON COLD: Irritated throat, watery discharge from the nose and eyes, sneezing, chills, and general body discomfort. Students should remain home if symptoms will interfere his/her ability to learn. Medical care should be obtained if symptoms persist beyond 7-10 days, fever develops, or discharge becomes yellow/green.

5 Tips for Supporting Students During Winter Break
Holidays and breaks can be difficult for families, so MindPeace has attached resources that you can customize to share with teens and their caregivers to support them during the time away.
For a non-life-threatening mental health crisis for children or teens, contact the CCHMC’s PIRC department at 513-636-4124 where they will help advise you on the most effective level of intervention to fit your needs. For ongoing therapy needs for children, teens, or young adults, visit www.mindpeacecincinnati.com to find a school-based or community provider. Additional crisis resources are also available here.

Girls on the Run strives to give girls in 3rd-5th or 6th-8th grade the tools they need to grow through adolescence and beyond feeling powerful, healthy and confident. By using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running, we inspire girls to boldly pursue their dreams.
Did you know our social-emotional learning program is nationally acclaimed as well? Give your girls this super boost of star power and watch them become better versions of their already awesome selves!
Some things you can expect from hosting a GOTR team:
10 weeks of interactive activities such as running, playing games, and discussing important self-empowering issues. The 10-week season begins the week of February 20th with our in-person 5K tentatively set for Saturday, May 13, 2023.
The program concludes with all participants walking, running, or skipping in a community 5K event. This involves family, friends, teachers, and the community at large.
GOTR utilizes a whole-person approach to elevate emotional, social, mental, and physical health.
