AR Apps (Augmented Reality)
School Board Meeting December 9, 2013
What is AR?
Augmented reality allows viewers to experience something from the real world environment that has been computer generated. It allows teachers to do numerous things from teaching students about topics they wouldn't ordinarily be able to experience hands on (ex. space, animals) and it allows the teacher to move beyond ordinary 2-D images to create engaging, memorable experiences.
Re-experience Important Lessons with Aurasma
All students will enjoy re-watching important lessons (not just those that are absent). Reinforce important vocabulary, science, reading, or math concepts in a fun way. Children will enjoy being chosen to be the photographer for that day's lesson.
Teach Correct Behaviors
The beginning of the year is spent setting and reinforcing expectations. Use Aurasma to capture what you want your class to practice. Students with special needs will benefit from seeing routines.
Increase Engagement
Take a simple task, such as practicing high frequency words, and turn it into something extraordinary. An ordinary word wall now becomes interactive with Aurasma.
Move beyond 2-D
We create posters on a daily basis to help students cement new learning and master important skills. Students enjoy referring back to these visual aids to help them practice what they are learning. The question is, do they always practice it the correct way? Do you also feel like you are pulled in many different directions during the school day. Have you said to yourself, "If only I had 5 or 10 extra minutes to help Johnny practice his sounds. It would give him the extra boost he needs in reading." The answer is Layar. It allows you to take ordinary graphics and "layer" in videos, web links, pictures, etc. for students to enjoy during their independent work time. Students are sure to stay on task with this fun, free app.
