Boiler Buzz - January 2020
Spring Semester is in Full Swing!
From the Director of Communications
It is hard to believe that we are already one month into 2020. January was a great month at BBCHS, and we are already excited for the rest of the spring semester to unfold.
If you have any questions or comments, please email me at ckant@bbchs.org. I would love to hear from you!
Thank you, and enjoy!

BBCHS Showcase
Welcome BBCHS Class of 2024!
BBCHS Showcase is an annual event in which we invite current 8th grade students and their families to explore what BBCHS has to offer. We are so proud of all of our different course offerings, unique clubs and organizations, and competitive athletic teams. We truly believe there is something here for everyone. We hope this night helped future students get excited about entering our building as Boilermakers in the fall.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and everyone who made this night a success!
5 Essentials Survey
The 5-Essentials survey allows students, staff, and parents to provide us with feedback in order to help us understand the conditions at BBCHS and provide a guide to improvement in the future. The survey is administered by the University of Chicago. Therefore, your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. Please review the attached document and video for more in-depth information. We need 20% parent participation to receive data from the state. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to help make us better!
AP Rally - Accept the Challenge
Advanced Placement coursework is something we pride ourselves in here at BBCHS. In the last 7 years, we have become the most comprehensive Advanced Placement school in Kankakee County. Year after year we encourage students to sign up for AP classes because we believe it is one way students help themselves prepare for life outside of BBCHS.
In January, we held an AP Rally, a time where students were invited to learn about how AP courses can help them meet their college, career, and life readiness goals. Students heard from teachers and current AP students about the academic, social-emotional, and financial benefits of taking an AP course. We invited them to accept the challenge and live outside of their comfort zone.
Music Students Head to All-State
A few days ago ten of our music students boarded a bus and headed to the 2020 ILMEA All-State Music Festival in Peoria.
These students put in hours, days, and months of practice and auditions to be chosen as the top music students in the state of Illinois. Being invited to the All-State Music Festival is an honor that high school students across the state strive to achieve. Congratulations Boilers! You always make us proud.

French Club Feature
We love featuring different clubs and activities to let the community know what is going on in our building outside the classroom setting. This month our French Club met to play board games together and meet new friends while doing so. Games such as Paris Metro, Mille Bornes, Guillotine, and Heads-up were used as a unique and fun tool to help these students practice the language.
