Gator Bites
CGE Weekly Newsletter-January 31, 2022
Welcome
Welcome to our weekly Gator Bites newsletter! Every Sunday evening our team at CGE will send out any important updates for the following week. Our goal is to be prepared, transparent and informative! We appreciate your time and urge you to read through carefully each week- especially during these unconventional virtual learning weeks.
Stay safe, stay informed and stay Gator Strong! 🐊
From the Principal's Desk
I want to take a moment to send a few morning carpool reminders. Please remember that children may not exit their cars until staff members enter the carpool area to greet your kids (this should take place at 7:30).
Letting the kids out earlier is a safety issue as there are not staff available to ensure your students’ safe entry to school, and teachers may not yet be in their classrooms to ensure their proper supervision. Please ensure you adhere to this expectation.
We understand that there are many cars utilizing carpool each day, and we understand why. It’s more difficult to walk to school during the winter months and we have had several challenges this year with our buses driven by our need for additional bus drivers (our bus routes have smoothed out the past few weeks, so please consider that option if you are willing and able).
Having said that, we know that parents may get in line as late as 7:45 and not be able to get through the carpool line by 7:55. Because of this, I have asked several staff to remain by the front door to allow kids to come inside if they are a few minutes late.
By 8:00 a.m., however, staff must attend to their duties inside. At that point, you will need to park and walk your kids in.
Please know that we do appreciate all your efforts and that these have been challenging times for you all. Let’s continue to work together to make our school outstanding each and every day no matter what barriers arise.
Each of your children deserve that.

Grades 3, 4, and 5 will also be participating in the NC Check-Ins next week. NC Check-Ins are interim assessments developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) that are aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards. These assessments will be used to determine future instructional needs for students. Results from these assessments will be shared when testing is complete.
The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday February 2nd - Reading Check-In (Grades 4/5)
Thursday February 3rd - Math Check-In (Grades 3/4/5)
End of Quarter 2
From the ESL Department

January 25th: Grades 4-5 students listening, reading, and some speaking tests

January 31st- February 4th: K 1-1 ACCESS Test
*The testing window closes on March 11th so there will be time for test make-ups if students are absent.
It is important that ESL students come to school on their designated testing days, well rested and ready for testing. They will be taking 4 tests throughout the week: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Each test will last 30 minutes to 1 hour. Please encourage your children who are being tested to do their best. Thank you for your support in this very important ESL testing. If you have any questions about testing, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Guibert at gguibert@chatham.k12.nc.us.
Thank you,

Camp Invention
Camp Invention
Don't forget to register your child for Camp Invention here at Chatham Grove Elementary!!! The dates of camp will be June 13-17, 8am-4pm. If there are snow makeup days at the end of the year for students that interfere with these dates, then we will push camp to June 14-18 or June 20-23. We are hoping this will not be the case and can move forward as planned with June 13-17.
Camp is for rising Kindergarten-rising 6th grade students. We need middle school, high school, and college students to work as Leaders in Training (middle school age) and Leadership Interns (high school and college age). We are also looking for a few parent volunteers to help with lunch and managing the supply room. Please note that all parent volunteers will need to fill out Chatham County's volunteer form. Let me know if you are interested!
Our next discount codes are available! Is your child a Camp Invention alumni? Have they attended Camp Invention before? Register your child before February 16th using the discount code: SUM35 for $35 off the registration fee. If this is your first time camping with Camp Invention, use the discount code: EXPLORE25 for $25 off the registration fee now until March 31st. You don't want to miss these discounts!
