Pomes and plays

  • During the middle ages the Japanese wrote pomes, stories, and plays.


  • The following tanka was written by an anonymous poet: lady Murasaki Shikibu wrote The Tale of Genji.


  • The oldest type of play is called Noh.


  • The actors wore masks and elaborate robes.


  • They danced, gestured, and chanted poetry to the music of drums and flutes.
