GWC Eagle's Nest
Week of January 10 - January 16
Impact Aid Forms
Each year we are required to submit a Federal Impact Aid form for every student attending Carver Elementary. We need you as the parent/guardian to complete the forms for your students. We are providing 2 options to you so we can make sure all forms are completed in a timely manner.
First Option: You may log-in to your student's HAC account and complete the form there. If you do not know your log-in, you can call the front office to get it or you may email Ms. Edwards at dledwards@smcps.org or Ms. Flippin at lmflippin@smcps.org
OR
Second Option: You may come to the school between the hours of 9 am- 2 pm on Thursday, Jan. 7, Monday, Jan. 11 or Tuesday Jan. 13 to fill out a paper copy of the form.
Masks must be worn when coming to the building. Hand sanitizer must be used. If coming into the building your temperature will be checked.
Please know that this form MUST be filled out and turned in no later than this Friday, January 15. This funding is vital for our school and the programs we are able to provide for our students and families. If you have already submitted your form, we thank you!
Welcome to 2021!
Welcome back! We have missed you so much and are excited and eager to begin learning with you again. Please note some reminders and very important information below.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
During these unique times with online learning, please be aware of background noise and disruptions while your child is participating in synchronous live Google Meets. These disruptions not only impact your child's learning but also impacts the learning of others during Google Meets. Thank you for your help with this.
Parents - Please utilize teachers’ Office Hours to ask questions and get clarification. Please avoid using Live Google Meets to communicate with parents; instructional time is limited and teachers need to use that time to focus on students’ instructional needs.
Attendance
Did you know that missing 9 or more days of school sets a student up to be at risk for academic achievement? Missing one day each month of school may not seem like a lot, but it equals 9 days! Attendance matters whether students are in a virtual classroom or the school classroom. Please make sure your students are attending all virtual instruction times including Google Meets, small group, and one on one meetings with their teachers. We want all our students on a path of excellent academic achievement!
Calendar Updates
ALL STUDENTS REMAIN VIRTUAL UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
SMCPS 2020-2021 School System Calendar
This has been a challenging year to say the least. One of those challenges has been attending school virtually. We would like to highlight the efforts of our educators. Have you seen or experienced some excellent online instruction? Teachers and staff who have gone the extra mile to make online content engaging? Let us know!
Every year we send home a learning compact that explains some expectations that we have for students, parents, and that families should have for Carver. We asked that a grown up, and the student sign the compact before it is returned to school. Once returned, the classroom teacher signs it and a copy is provided to the student. Below, you will find a link to fill out a digital version of our Compact. During this unusual time of learning, it is very important that we are all on the same page and have open lines of communication. We would appreciate it if you would take just a few minutes to read and complete our School/Family Learning Compact. Thank you!
Please take a minute to provide us with your input by completing this survey.
