SHISD Mid-Week Message
Weekly Superintendent's Message for Spring Hill ISD
Welcome Back from Spring Break!
Panther Nation,
I hope each of you had a wonderful spring break and had time to rest and recover for the stretch drive as we enter the busiest season in education. SHISD has hit some bumps in the road the last few weeks, but the darkness will not drown out the light. The expectation remains at SHISD to be the premier school district and an example for other ISDs to follow.
SHISD is Hosting District UIL Academic Meet / Day of Service Today
Today is an exciting day for our High School as SHISD is hosting area schools to compete in UIL Academics. Our teachers always prepare our students to excel in this competition and this year should be no different. In addition, the students not participating or serving in this event, will participate in a day of service today. This is our time to give back to the community that has given so much to our schools and our students. Our students and faculty will be involved in service projects throughout our community including:
- Habitat for Humanity - work in ReStore Store and Brush with Kindness
- Parks and Recreation - clean parks
- Parks and Recreation - staining a play area at Kidsview
- Parks and Recreation - trash pick up
- Boys and Girls Club - set up classroom
- Longview Dream Center - organize food pantry and clothing closet
- Hope's Closet - organize food pantry and clothing closet
- Longview World of Wonders - set museum for next activity
- Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center - helping animals
- Longview Community Ministry - help with the food pantry
- Teague Park - working with Veterans cleaning the Vietnam Veteran's Wall
Kudos:
Yesterday I sent in a request to have light bulbs replaced in my classroom. It seemed like it was just a matter of minutes before someone was here to replace the ones that were burned out. How awesome is that? Several weeks ago the teachers in first grade asked for Clorox wipes to clean our rooms. Mr. Pleasant had the wipes to us that day. Mr. Pleasant and his staff are doing an awesome job taking care of our requests and supporting us as we take care of our students and provide a safe place for them to learn.
Thanks to Coach Salter and the track coaches for a great Bill Secord Relay event.
I wanted to say thank you to the board for approving the resolution to waive our make-up days for the January snow days. I truly appreciate Mr. Snell suggesting to the board to waive those days. I am very thankful for all you have done on the teachers and staff's behalf. I feel appreciated and for that I thank you.
I just wanted to brag on the nice gentlemen, Tim and Gene, who came in today. They were here to fix a light in Mrs. Newkirk's room and on their way out, they stopped by my room and asked if they could fix a few of my lights. I didn't even notice they were going out. They happened to see them and changed them out quickly. They were very kind and efficient. - Mrs. Burrows
