We had a great time getting back into the swing of school routines after our holiday season. Hope your holidays were bright and peaceful, as mine were with my extended family.
The children were so excited to be back at school that they were reminding their peers of our classroom rules and routines without teacher's help, and excitedly sharing priceless stories of Christmas! They have shown such contagious enthusiasm and excitement towards learning and being back at school.
Their confidence and self help skills (and all their other learning areas) have taken such a huge jump of success for each and every child this past month! This is my favorite time of year because we are in the middle of the school year, and I love seeing the children blossom and become more successful in our spring season! I love watching each child's growth!
January Recap: We got to explore snow and ice outside on the playground which led to a great discussion: What causes yellow snow? I learned from a student that the sun is yellow and turns the snow yellow! Let's just say, that this became a great teaching moment on yellow snow versus white snow! Our snowman crafts and story books became a huge hit, and of course, our own class tie-dye ice castle was a blast!
Arctic Animals: The most interesting facts that we learned about Penguins are: Penguins can't fly like most birds, and penguins swim instead! Our favorite names of penguin types are: Chinstrap, Fairy, King, and Macaroni penguins; these names became our class pet names for each other! We loved playing in the cold weather outside on the playground and playing penguin/killer whale freeze tag. We learned more about North Pole animals as well as polar bears. Did you know? Polar bears can swim 100 miles/hr. while holding their breath, and they love to eat seals! We had a great field trip to Cabela's. The best part was seeing the children so excited and talkative days later about it!
For February: We are continuing an arctic animal theme by just focusing on a Bear Study! We will be discussing about the types of bears, hibernation, and so much more. My favorite books that we read with this theme are: Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear? and Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? We will be then celebrating Valentine's Day and Friendship Day, along with making hearts and having an ice cream shop party! Our dramatic play area will be also set up as a Ice Cream/Fast Food shop! We will be focusing on the letters:
- B for Bears
- V for Valentines' Day
- F for Friends
- I for Ice cream
Don't Forget about Parent Teacher Conferences coming up! We will be discussing your plans for kindergarten along with the great progress of your child. Things to work on at home will depend on the plans we set during conferences. I am excited to meet with you all wonderful parents to celebrate all the hard work your child has been doing!
