At the beginning of the story strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly and is shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future. Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.
In the middle of the story Jackson gets a job in Jersey and tries to make a living because 2007 is what he now calls his ''home base'' because 2007 is the farthest he can go. He attempts to get Holly to be his girlfriend and to tell some of his closet friends that he is from the future and he is stuck in the past and that hopefully his really smart friend could figure out a way for him to get back to 2009. Jackson has to avoid alot of people including his self in 2003 because he doesn't know what will happen.
At the end of Tempest the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these guys will stop at nothing to search for this powerful young time-traveler they want to find out a way to take his time traveling ability away or just kill this young boy.
