Glacier Ridge Gazette
Principal Message: Times of Celebration and Giving
There were two themes this week at GRE, which you wouldn’t expect for a random (or not so random) week in October.
As you know, Glacier Ridge plans a significant emphasis on kindness. In order for that to be effective, we can’t just show the students, we have to feel it, model it, and live it. For example, we are currently wrapping up our Operation Kids for Troops initiative, which collects needed supplies for troops serving overseas in the military. All week, students and families have been collecting items which will be sorted, boxed, and sent to troops by students. This is in coordination with our schoolwide Veterans Day celebration, which will occur on Friday, November 11th. On that day, we will celebrate all veterans, but specifically those that are veterans of current GRE students.
In addition to Operation Kids for Troops, the Girl Scout troop from Old Sawmill is collecting new and used costumes for Run the Race. Feel free to bring those in after they are gently used on Monday.
We also had two big celebrations this week, Halloween/Harvest and Diwali. We celebrated harvest today with students being able to wear costumes and celebrate with activities and collaborative games in their classrooms. In addition, Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, was on Monday, which many GRE families celebrate. Many classrooms learned about Diwali traditions and students shared how their family celebrated. We value celebrating differences at GRE and we give students opportunities to talk about things that are important and meaningful to them. This helps students understand one another and make connections.
Regardless of whether you celebrate Diwali, Halloween, or don’t celebrate either, I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D

Colder Weather is Coming
It’s getting cold outside! GRE students LOVE going out for recess. We want them to stay safe and healthy. Please make sure your child leaves for school with outerwear appropriate for the day’s weather. Make a habit of checking the weather forecast and encouraging your child to wear a coat, hat, scarf and gloves on these colder days. Students are welcome to wear shorts while inside, but they MUST wear pants over them for recess during cold temperatures. Students must also bring out a jacket that is appropriate for the temperature.
20 degrees or below with wind chill - all recesses will be indoors
21-25 degrees with wind chill - lunch recess will be indoors, short recess will be outdoors
26 degrees with wind chill and warmer - all recesses will be outdoors
Lastly, it is a good reminder to put your child's name in their respective winter attire. A simple task of putting names in coats and on sweatshirts helps get them back to their owner.

Cookie Dough and Pastry Sale
The PTO cookie dough and pastry sale will kick off on Wednesday, November 2nd and will conclude on Wednesday, November 16th. The designated time for pick up will be Thursday, December 8th from 4:30-6:30 PM.
Your child will be bringing home a flier with product information, however we will be offering ONLINE ordering only. The flier will include a unique Web Sale Code that is associated with your student. Once you log in with the code, you will receive an email link specifically for your child that you can send out to family and friends for ease of ordering as well. This eliminates collecting cash and checks from those you sell to. Every students' first initial, last name, grade, and teacher will be uploaded into the secure ordering site. All names are archived once the sale concludes.
If you would like to opt out of this service, please email frazier_jenny@dublinschools.net (or the office email link on the GRE website) by noon on Monday, October 31, stating that you would like to “Opt Out” and we will remove your child(ren) from the online ordering option. Please include your child’s name, grade, and teacher in the email.
Girl Scout Costume Collection
The Girl Scouts from Troop 6219 are collecting new or gently used costumes for students in need. There is a box in the GRE commons by the front door. The costumes benefit the Run the Race charity. The costume drive ends on Nov. 7th. Any post Halloween costumes you would like to donate will be put to good use.
Costumes will be donated to the Run the Race organization which provides snacks, tutoring, sports, and extracurricular activities to inner city students in need.
Candy Give Back - November 1-7
Donate your leftover Halloween candy to support Feed The Kids Columbus. FTKC is a non-profit working to serve and advocate for children in Central Ohio with food insecurities, including students in DCS. Your treat will be added to food bags given to hungry kiddos.
GRE Lost & Found
It's that time of year where kids are bundled up in coats and hats for the morning commute, only to find them in t-shirts and shorts by the time they come home!
Check out the GRE Fall Lost & Found and have your children stop by the table outside the clinic to claim their items. Unclaimed items will be donated on 10/27.
Veterans Day Celebration 2022
The students and staff of Glacier Ridge Elementary are excited for our annual Veterans Day Celebration. This year our celebration will be held on Friday, November 11th at 9:25 AM. Veterans, as special guests of our Glacier Ridge students and staff, are invited to attend. We will honor our veterans with an assembly, followed by a brief reception on the playground. GRE students are encouraged to invite a family member who is a veteran.
In preparation for this day, we ask that anyone in our GRE family who would like to bring a veteran, please RSVP. This will allow us to properly plan for and recognize each of our guests.
RSVP before Wednesday, November 2 by completing this form.
PLEASE NOTE - Registration is necessary in order to plan appropriate seating and support. Family members are welcome to attend along with our veteran guests; however, seating may be limited for additional family.
