Mr. Doyle's Message
As we conclude the first week of Quarter 2, I want to share a reminder about how to become a Canvas Parent Observer.
Canvas is an online system that our teachers use to provide students with course assignments, resources, tests and quizzes. As a parent, you may also have access to this system in order to better follow what is happening in your students' classes. The information below explains the process to sign up for an account. We have also included a couple videos that explain the process as well.
If you have difficulty signing up for the account, please contact your child's teacher or email techsupport@wcusd200.org.

8th Grade
MATH:
We started our Proportional Relationships unit. In this unit students will learn how to:
- Graph proportional relationships and identify that unit rate is the slope of the graph.
- Determine the slope of a line between to points
- Determine the equation of a line given a verbal description, table, or graph of a direct variation.
ADVANCED MATH
In algebra, we are finishing up Chapter 2: Linear Relationships. Chapter 2 has focused on the starting value and growth of linear functions. Students have looked for connections between the multiple representations of linear functions: table, graph, equation, and situation. In this chapter, they have been gaining a deeper understanding of slope than they may have had in previous courses, and they have been exploring the idea of slope as a rate of change. Next up will be Chapter 3 Simplifying and Solving. In this chapter students will focus on multiplying expressions. They will also solve equations that contain products. While these new ideas will be introduced using algebra tiles, students will also develop a method to multiply expressions without using tiles.
LITERACY:
Block classes have just finished Collection 3: The Road to Freedom. The students will be teaching the class on their researched topic.
SCIENCE:
We continue to dive deeper into our current unit on Matter. Next we will focus on the three main states of matter and how they are related to one another, as well as how the particles behave in each. We are also excited to complete the upcoming labs and activities that will help us explore how each of the states changes from one to another. We will also extend our thinking by investigating gas laws, gas behaviors, and characteristics.
