Principal's Perspective
It was another wonderful week at the Glen! We also announced to students that Mrs. Baud, Mrs. Newman, and I will be kissing a pig if we meet our $35,000 goal!! Kids have had all the questions about this! What color is the pig? What's the pig's name? Will it be muddy? How big is the pig? All of these will be answered once they meet our goal! We've already hit $8,000+ in the first few days of fundraising. I can't wait to see what next week holds!
This is also a friendly reminder that there is no school on Monday in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend with your family. I always find that it comes a great time to reconnect and have down time with the people most important to you.
We'll see everyone back here on Tuesday!

Hello families!
We had another great week here at Maple Glen!
Safety Snippet
This week we had our first ALICE drill of the year. Thursday classes watched a video and had a conversation of what students should do when we have an ALICE lockdown. At this level, we really focus on the kids’ job as Stop, Look, and Listen. Then they know that the teacher with them will give them directions, based on the facts they have at that time. Typically at this level, we focus most on Barricade and Evacuate in our drills. Everyone did a great job!
Testing Tidbits
Today is the end of our F&P and iReady Diagnostic windows. Next week, you should receive information from your classroom teacher on student results. These are tools that help teachers know where students are, and where they need to go next with them in instruction.
NWEA for grades K-4 started this week! We have a three week window, so each grade might test on various days throughout that window. Your classroom teacher can offer more details on testing dates. All students will take a Reading and Math test. We will take NWEA in the fall, winter, and spring, allowing us to monitor student growth, and to guide instruction. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me or your classroom teacher.
I hope you have a relaxing and fun Labor Day weekend!!

Counselor's Corner
Dear families,
This year I will continue to offer small skill-based groups for our students. Group counseling is an excellent way for children to learn new skills, develop self-confidence, become more aware of others’ views, practice new behaviors, and better understand how to deal with problems life presents. Groups will be based on skills that have been identified as a need, such as coping skills for anxiety, friendship skills, resilience, and regulation.
The first group I will offer is called F.I.S.H. for K-4 students who are coping with Families In Separate Homes. This group is geared towards students whose families have recently gone through a separation or divorce. We will discuss feelings related to family changes as well as connecting with others who have had similar experiences. The groups will run for 6-8 sessions, each lasting about 20 minutes during the school day at a time that works best for the teachers and students. If you would like your child(ren) to participate, please fill out this FISH Google Form by September 18th. Fill out one form per child.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
Nicole Newman
