The leaves are turning...

...time to get those sweaters out. With the weather turning colder, please remember to send your children to school with clothing appropriate for the temperatures. Fall is here. Remember, parent teacher conferences are next week. Make sure you have marked your calendar.

National Distinguished Principals Award

A big shout out to Mr Comella who is in Washington D.C. this week to receive the distinguished principal award from The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). The trip included various tours and events around the D.C. area. and the awards ceremony is this evening. Please join us in thanking Mr Comella for all that he does for Pilgrim!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences are happening next week. Now is the time for everyone to take a step back to check that every child is working to his/her full potential. This is also the time to ask any questions about what is happening at school. Pilgrim’s greatest strength lies in the relationships that teachers and staff form with students and their families. Your child’s homeroom has scheduled a conference for you in the coming week. If you have not received an appointment letter, please contact the homeroom teacher. Thank you for your cooperation so that we can create the best learning environment possible for our students!

Book Fair

Give the gift of reading and help support our classrooms! Book Fair will be open Tuesday, October 16th from 3-8 pm; Wednesday October 17th from 3-7 pm; and Thursday, October 18th from 3-8pm. You can also shop online (or share with grandparents, aunts/uncles, hint hint) at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/pilgrim from now until October 22. Books ordered online will ship free to the school!!

Profits help teachers to stock classroom libraries and a portion of all proceeds go to Pilgrim Kids Care, to purchase books for our school partners.

Cross Country

Running, Rain and a rainbow were part of the final Cross Country Meet on Tuesday the 9th. We ran at Cricket Hill and ran well. We had a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, all the way to 34th with over 55 runners and spread over 4 age groups. Well done. Special thanks to Laurie Steensma for not only running the marathon on Sunday but for coaching our team.

We have one final practice on Monday, October 29th. Then come to a short practice and Ice Cream celebration 3:00-3:45pm.. Don't forget to launder and put your child's uniform in a bag with their name on the bag. There is a box marked in the office.

Ultimate Ninja Fundraiser

Join us for an ultimate afternoon of ninja training on October 19th! Let your kids burn off some energy on a day off of school and help the PTL raise money. We have reserved an afternoon time slot of open play available to our families at Ultimate Ninjas on Montrose. The cost is $20 for two hours of play, water and snacks and is open to children five and up.

Make sure you reserve your spot and select October 19th when registering- there is a limit of how many kids can attend. Flyers will be sent home this week with all the important info.

Pilgrim Halloween Party

Join us on Friday, October 26th, for the annual Parent Teacher League (PTL) Halloween Party! Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a minimal charge, with tickets being on sale for purchasing food, and entry to games, Trick or Treat, and many other activities! The party ends at 8:00 p.m. and community members are welcome.

The annual Pilgrim PTL Greenery sale is open for business. Get your holiday game going early and support our classrooms by purchasing greenery for the holidays! The greenery is a great gift for friends, family, neighbors and business associates. Our program offers sustainably-harvested evergreens that add holiday flair to your own home and are a great gift for friends, family and clients. Items to ship across the country or across town. Sweet Tooth Tuesdays Update

A big thanks to parent Debbie Rooney for organizing this event.

Day of cash payments will no longer be accepted for Sweet Tooth Tuesday. If you want to order for the month or the year, please click on the link below for an order form. Moving forward, all orders need to be monthly or yearly, paid by the last week of the previous month. So, if your child wants to order for November, your order must be placed no later than October 29th. Thanks everyone.

The proceeds from the party totaled $1,770, which is being donated to Refugee One for the sponsorship of a new refugee Rohingya family arriving next week! Pilgrim and Bethany UCC (on Paulina and Cullom) are partnering to sponsor this family! We will collect items in the Parlor and plan to have them delivered to their apartment by next Wednesday.

Coat Angels

Coat Angels is working to raise upfront donations this year to guarantee that they are able to fulfill the requests being received. They have received an exceptional amount of requests for coat, 4,000 kids need new coats! Any donation amount will help and you can donate on the website (http://www.coatangels.org/) or via Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/donate/636521493415867/1800408576710903/). We are unsure of how the fundraising will proceed but if you are able to contribute now, it would really benefit this wonderful organization. Pilgrim will still be collecting coats during the month of November, so please watch for details within the next few weeks.

Cocktails for a Cause!

Support the Dave Maring School Endowment Fund! Dave Maring taught, coached and served as Principal at Pilgrim for 49 years. The School Endowment Fund honors Dave’s mission to give children the greatest gift of all: a Pilgrim education. The Endowment Fund Committee is hosting a party on Friday, November 9, at the Little Fort Tavern on Lincoln Avenue. The $45 ticket price includes drinks and food. Proceeds from the Fund goes to Tuition Assistance and pays for special teacher projects and classes. Save the date and support the Fund!

Gift Cards

Regular Gift Card hours are now in effect: Sunday in the church foyer at 11:30 a.m. and Monday and Friday in the school office from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. Order forms are on the table in the church narthex and in the school office. Please contact Anne Barsano 312-972-9040 or cbarsano@aol.com with orders/questions. Remember, cards can be used to purchase other items, such as gas and groceries, in addition to using them as presents. Let's have a really great year of sales!

Thank you to everyone for spreading the good news about Pilgrim! If you want a lawn sign, we have them in the office. If you have any friends interested in touring Pilgrim, we give tours every Tuesday at 10 and our first Open House for prospective parents is Tuesday, October 23. More info about that as we get closer to the date.
