Update on Boundary Committee 2016
Two draft boundary scenarios have been posted along with a locator tool so stakeholders can enter their address and see which elementary school their child could attend based on each scenario. To view the locator tool for Scenario A, click HERE. To view the locator tool for Scenario B, click HERE. The Boundary Committee has been working since March on these scenarios and they will reconvene in October to review the scenarios based on public input and the latest enrollment data.
Please remember these are still DRAFT scenarios and changes will likely be forthcoming based on both feedback and updated enrollment, but the committee would like to hear from you, our stakeholders, as to their progress on these two drafts. You can share your comments by visiting this forum site. You will need to create an account in order to log in and post a comment.
***Please note, the locator tool appears to have some discrepancies with middle and high school boundaries, particularly in the area of the Bainbridge subdivision. If you currently live in FMS/LHS boundaries, SMS/THS boundaries, or WMS/HHS boundaries, that WILL NOT change with the new boundaries for 2017-2018 which will only affect our elementary buildings for grades K-6.
UPDATED TIMELINE:
September 2nd - October 2nd: Online Tool launched and shared so public can weigh in on the two draft scenarios;
First week of October - we verify our official enrollment numbers and share with our demographer to analyze with regard to the draft scenarios;
October 18th OR 25th: tentative date for next Boundary Meeting to examine drafts with regard to new numbers and review online comments/suggestions;
November: Boundary Committee meets to finalize a scenario the committee wants to recommend to the Board of Education;
December 15th: Admin presents committee’s boundary recommendation to the Board for approval;
December/January: Demographer applies new projections to approved scenario to complete demographic study.
5th Grade Outdoor Learning Experience
Our fifth grade students had a great time at Quail Ridge Park and Broemmelsiek Park during their Outdoor Learning Experiences. Students spent the two days learning and observing in our local parks.
Fire Department Visits
On Thursday, October 6th, Kindergarten and Second Grade attended assemblies on fire safety put on by our local Fire Department. The Fire Department reviewed safety, emergency plans, and calling 9-1-1 with our students. Students were then allowed to tour the fire truck! Smiles and fun were had by all :)

Duello’s Library Is Off to a Great Start in 2016!
Thank you to all the volunteers and staff that worked to make the September book fair a wonderful success!! Students had fun and picked up over 3000 new books to read in the weeks ahead. Everyone had fun with the Golden Tickets this time. We gave out over $800.00 in books and materials to happy students and staff.
Thanks to your commitment to reading, Duello Library will continue to expand its programs. In the past we have invested in purchasing hundreds of titles including books and resources for our teachers to use in class. We have raised money to purchase databases such as TumbleBooks, PebbleGo, and the Rosen Science Suite. We have put resources into student reading incentive programs such as the Mark Twain Readers. Students have been thrilled with our newest expansion into a Makerspace program in which students work together in teams to explore various concepts. For example, this week they have explored magnetism as they have created objects or worked according to design templates. In the weeks ahead they will be exploring the Laws of Motion, physics, and engineering principles. Over the past 3 years our fundraising efforts have helped us acquire iPads for student use in the library and this year in the classrooms as well. So how will we use the funds raised this fair?
Our goals:
1. Build student, staff, and family excitement. (We will be expanding our creative and collaborative design contests.)
2. Purchase the database Bookflix for the building and for families to use at home. (If you visit the Duello Elementary Library webpage, you will be able to click into and use various databases from home. The Username and Passwords follow the database name—if allowed by the provider.)
3. Expand the library collection, Makerspace, and STEM programs. (Students are
already enjoying over 600 new titles this year. We will continue to grow and update our collection as well. Makerspace has focused on collaboration, STEM, curricular concepts. This year we will expand further to accommodate more student interests and offer options for after school events.)
Thank you for continuing to make Duello an amazing school and community!
Way to go Mustangs.
A Note from Our Counselors
Holiday Assistance Important Information- During the holiday season, the Duello community traditionally participates in a Holiday Assistance Program offering assistance to families and children in our community. This year for the first time, Duello is joining with Morning Star Church in a partnership with Morning Star's Christmas Shoppe. The Christmas Shoppe is an opportunity for our families in need to purchase gifts for their own children at deeply discounted prices. The gifts collected by Duello families and staff are donated To Christmas Shoppe and all proceeds go to the New Hope Resource Center which assists local families in need throughout the year. To support the Christmas Shoppe, we will be asking for donations of specific gift items or gift cards and we are also accepting cash donations for gift cards, as well as wrapping paper and other wrapping items. Please plan to support this program. More details will be coming soon as well as some school wide fundraisers as we have done in the past.
**Counselors will be extending invitations to register for Christmas Shoppe to Duello families based on need in the coming weeks. All participants MUST register in order to participate in Christmas Shoppe!! If you are in need of assistance this holiday season or have questions about this program, please contact Jacki Fine at 636-327-6050 option 6 or at jacquelinefine@wsdr4.org .
