What Are We Learning This Week?
November 4, 2013
Can you believe that we are already in the month of November? Since it is November, I want to let all of you know how thankful I am to each of you. I want to thank you all once again for making the time last week for our parent/teacher conferences. I enjoyed meeting and collaborating together on ideas on how we can take your child to the next level in all aspects of learning. I am thankful for all of your assistance this year with your child's education. Reading every night with your child, working on sight words, and helping with homework continues to reinforce our learning at school. I have seen so much progress in the classroom. Lastly, I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to work with and teach your children.
What We Are Focusing On This Week...
Rhyming
We will be reading Is Your Mama A Llama written by Deborah Guarino. After the story we will discuss what rhyming means and identify if words rhyme or not. Students will also be creating their own rhyming baskets.
Counting Up to Ten
We will practice counting to ten using different fall items.
Life Cycles
We will explore the life cycle of a pumpkin by observation and sequencing.
What You Can Do To Reinforce Your Child's Learning
I will be sending student's rhyming baskets home on Friday. You and your child will have a great time playing this game. Take turns pulling out two pictures from the rhyming basket. If the pictures are objects that rhyme that is great! If they do not rhyme, then come up with a word that does rhyme with one of the pictures.
For math, students can continue identifying numbers one through ten. They can also count any items you have at home. For example five spoons or ten crayons. You can ask a question like "How many spoons are there?".
Students will be given back their work on sequencing the life cycle of a pumpkin. You can review the stages with your child.
Is Your Mama a Llama Song
As I mentioned earlier, I will be reading Is Your Mama a Llama by Deborah Guarino. I came across a song that goes a long with the book. I've included it below. You may like to listen to it with your child. It is excellent for rhyming and gives children the opportunity to guess what animal is being described.
