Minnewaska Area Middle School Newsletter
Principal's Corner
Wow, it's been quite a month around Minnewaska and we're really excited to see kids here and there! We've spent our month preparing for all learning scenarios and we're ready to move into action with school starting. As with any new year, everything on paper jives and looks great, but when moving into action it's can shift and move. We ask for your grace as we get started and move into a rhythm through the beginning of this year.
Today's email has a lot of information about how to gather materials and what you need to know about Distance Learning by Choice. If you have any questions, please reach out at any point.
Have a great week and we're excited to see your child on September 1st and/or 2nd!

Online Enrollment
Open House-August 26th
Our Open House will look and feel a little different this year. Teachers will have an online video message for all those who are comfortable learning about their teacher in this way.
Although we want to limit the families coming into our school, we recognize for some the traditional model of Open House will be beneficial. Should you choose to attend Open House, we have a schedule of when to attend by student's last name.
3:30-4:00 M-P
4:00-4:30 Q-T
4:30-5:00 U-Z
5:00-5:30 A-D
5:30-6:00 E-H
6:00-6:30 I-L
6:30-7:30 Open
School pictures are moved until September and we will be sharing that date soon.
District Learning By Choice
Device Pick Up
If these times do not work for you, please reach out to our offices so we can make other plans.
Students in grades 4-6 will receive devices in their classroom on the first day of school. If you are participating in Distance Learning by Choice, please join us when 7-12 picks up devices, or connect with Kristen at Minnewaska Area Middle School office to make arrangements.
Can Minnewaska Area Middle School Students take devices home?
Students in grades 4-6 can check out devices from their classroom teacher if they need to use it to complete work. This is a change from past years and also the reason for insurance to be collected this fall.
MASKS
Meal Service
Hybrid learners have the option to take home meals for the days they are not in school. Meals will be charged as they are when students are in person. Between 2:30-3:15 on the in-person learning day, students may report to the cafeteria to pick up one breakfast and one lunch.
Distance Learning by Choice student meals will be available for purchase as well. Food and Nutrition Services is working on the system.
These plans are all in process, so please watch for more information on how to register and pick up meals for students who are learning distantly.
Online Learning Platforms
What does Hybrid and A/B Days mean for 7th and 8th grade?
The 7th and 8th grade will participate in an A/B Schedule, allowing for 50% capacity at our 7-12. Students will attend school in person on 2 days and distantly 3 days. Students attending on an A Day will attend in person on Monday and Thursday. Students attending on a B Day will attend in person on Tuesday and Friday. All students will learn distantly on Wednesdays.
With all this said, on our short weeks of school (the first 2), we will not take Wednesdays as a Distance Learning Day. Instead, it will be a B-A-B-A schedule for week 1 and 2.
We will release the A/B groups on Tuesday, August 19th to parents. Please understand that these groups have been created to keep families together. I understand these group pairings won’t be ideal or perfect but we ask for your cooperation as we continue to move forward with our plan.
