Literacy Coaches' Corner
Laura Brandt (K-1)
My name is Laura Brandt, and I am the Literacy Coach for Kindergarten and First Grade at Celina Primary School. I'm a wife and a mom of three kids, ages 15, 11, and 9. I’ve been a teacher of elementary children for the last 20 years as a homeroom teacher, reading support teacher, and volunteer-program coordinator. I believe that literacy is the gateway to opportunity, and I am so excited to be supporting Celina teachers in their very important job of teaching our youngest students how to read.
Karen Sudhoff (2-3)
My name is Karen Sudhoff, and I am very excited to be the new literacy coach supporting 2nd and 3rd grade teachers! I have an early childhood education degree and a reading master’s degree with a K-12 reading endorsement. For the past fourteen years, I have been a 3rd grade teacher at Elida. My husband, Adam and I live in Coldwater with our two daughters. Lila is 11 years old and Cora is 8. We enjoy going to our farm in Indiana to spend time outdoors with family and friends. The 2021-2022 school year promises to be a very exciting time to be a Bulldog. I look forward to working with everyone at Celina to give our students the best literacy experience possible!
Sarah VanTilburg (4-5)
Hello, everyone! My name is Sarah VanTilburg, and I am so excited to be the Literacy Coach for fourth and fifth grade! My teaching career began in St Marys where I taught intervention for twelve years. Then, several years ago, I came back to my hometown to teach in Celina. COVID turned my world upside down, I stayed home with my two sons for a year, and I am so grateful and so thrilled to be back! In my freetime, I love to walk, hike, do yoga, camp, and read books (of course). Next school year, I look forward to working closely with fourth and fifth grade reading teachers and supporting them in any way that I can!
Christine Schlater (6-HS)
My name is Christine Schlater, and I am the Literacy Coach for Grades 6-12. My husband and I are transplants from “the other side of the lake” and are proudly raising our children (ages 12, 9, 7) as Bulldogs. During the last fourteen years, I have taught English language arts as a classroom teacher for grades 4-9. Seven of these years have been at Celina City Schools. As a literacy coach, I’m ready to embark on a journey supporting teachers in a variety of ways where we are doing our very best every day for our students.
