Every Student, Every Day, Deserves to Learn, Lead, & Excel!

Message from Ms. Perkins

Today we held our first fire drill for the school year. We were able to clear our whole building in less than 2 minutes. Way to go Simonton ES staff and students. Each month we practice one of the following: fire drill, severe weather drill and a lock down drill. While we do not want to frighten our students, we do want to make sure they know what to do should there be an emergency.

Next Thursday, August 19, 2021, we will hold curriculum night for parents/guardians who have students in Pre-K through 2nd grade. On Thursday, August 26, 2021, we look forward to greeting parents/guardians for our 3rd through 5th grade curriculum night. In an effort to keep everyone healthy and safe we are asking that only one parent/guardian attend curriculum night. Below you will find more information about start times.

Our car rider lane is very popular this school year. The number of students who are car riders this year has more than doubled. It is so important that children and adults are safe in this area. Please follow the traffic signs. All cars are to enter and exit the car rider lot making a right hand turn. There are to be NO left hand turns into or out of our parking lot. Thank you for your support in keeping everyone safe.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Curriculum Night

For the safety of all in attendance, we are asking that only one parent attend Curriculum Night. This will allow teachers to space out chairs in their rooms and properly distance between families. Thank you for your understanding!

CURRICULUM NIGHT

ESOL Parent Meeting ~ 5:00 pm

Curriculum Night (Pre-K - 2nd Grade) ~ 5:30 pm

Thursday, August 26, 2021

FOCUS Parent Meeting ~ 5:00 pm

PTA General Meeting ~ 5:30 pm

Curriculum Night (3rd - 5th Grade) ~ 5:45 pm

Annual Title 1 Parent Meeting

During both Curriculum Nights, we will be holding our Annual Title 1 Parent Meeting. This meeting will be prerecorded and played Thursday, August 19th and again on Thursday, August 26th.

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL OF STUDENTS

Students are expected to be at school on time and not leave unless they have permission. Staff members are involved in planning, conferencing, and staff meetings prior to 7:45 am. Car riders should NOT arrive before this time. At 7:45 am students should be dropped off in the car-rider line on the right-hand side of the school, not in the front office. This is for their safety. There is no one on duty to supervise students prior to this time. If students arrive after 8:15 parents are to park in a regular parking space and escort their child to the office for check-in.

School dismissal is at 2:45 pm. Car riders must be picked up by 3:05 pm. After this time, car riders will be taken to the front office for parent contact. Excessive incidents of late car rider pick up will result in a parent conference with school administrators and further action that may include the School Resource Officer and/or Division of Family and Children Services.

SCHOOL COMMUNICATIONS

Formal parent conferences are scheduled two times during the school year. Weekly folders are sent home on Friday by each classroom teacher to provide timely information about classroom, school and community events. Teachers are available for phone calls/meetings before or after the instructional day. Therefore, conferences should be scheduled in advance. If you would like to speak with a teacher regarding your child’s progress, please contact the school or send the teacher an email. The weekly Simonton Parent Newsletter, SchoolMessenger, Class Dojo, Facebook, Twitter and the school website www.gcpsk12.org/SimontonES are other forms of communication used to relay information to parents.
