PINE RUN EXPORES DESIGN THINKING!
As future workers, Pine Run students will do more brainstorming, more creating, more problem solving. To best prepare them, Pine Run Teachers read the book LAUNCH, which is a blueprint for bringing Design Thinking into the classroom. Design thinking is a way of solving problems that encourages positive risk-taking and creativity. It's identifying a problem and solving that problem by making something, much like the treehouses that were designed and made by students prior to school!
Pine Run educators know that EVERYONE has his/her own approach to creativity. Not everyone can grab a blank canvas and paint a masterpiece on the fly. Not everyone can craft the lyrics to a great song. Because everyone is different, the authors of LAUNCH spell out several creative mindsets including:
- the artist, who loves to make things from scratch
- the geek, who is fascinated by systems and structures
- the architect, who crafts things from the systematic side
- the engineer, who focuses on fixing problems
- the hacker, who tears things down to build something better
- the point guard, who makes a difference and creates opportunities
During the year ahead, our Pine Run students will be employing their creativity and using design thinking to acquire the skills and abilities that will best prepare them for THEIR future!!!
