Blended Model Update
We are so excited to welcome students and staff back into our building! We will start the blended model on Tuesday January 26. For safety reasons, students who have chosen to return will have two days of in-person learning each week. Students will either have in person learning on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. All students will be learning virtually on Fridays. Schedules with this information were mailed home TODAY January 18th. Students will line up at their same designated doors as the beginning of the year, have their temperatures taken and be welcomed into our building. Assigned doors will be included in the letter mailed home today.
Every student will start the day by joining their same advisory class at 7:45 as they have all year. They will follow the same daily schedule (with new elective classes) as they have been using in full distance learning. Some students will be in person and others will be joining remotely. The in person learning will end at 1:10 for all in person students.
Breakfast and Lunch continues to be free for all students. Next week, a pick up option will be available at Washington on Monday- Thursday. On Friday, pick up continues at previous locations: Jefferson Elementary being our closest one.
2nd Semester Schedules
Here is the Blended/ Virtual schedule for Washington students. Schedules and a letter stating what days your child is learning in person was mailed home TODAY: Monday January 18th.
WALT: Washington Afternoon Learning Time
We have created an opportunity for a limited number of students to stay at Washington for Afternoon Learning Time (WALT). For safety reasons, students will stay in one dedicated learning space and practice social distancing during this time. Because of strict social distancing, there will be a limited number of students participating in WALT. Masks will be mandatory as they will be during the in person learning time.
If you wish to request a placement in Afternoon Learning Time, you may call the Washington office at 920-663-9570. Your student will be reserved a place in the Afternoon Learning Time roster. If there are more requests than we can accommodate right away, a waiting list will be added to the roster.
What should I bring to Blended?
- Students should always bring their Chromebook and charger
- Per safety guidelines, every student and adult must wear a mask while in the building at all times
- A water bottle- the drinking fountains are closed but our bottle filler up stations are open
- A possible snack- breakfast and lunch is free for any student who would like it
SWIRL- A School Goal
The Washington Middle School goal is to improve our students' literacy skills by creating an opportunity for every student, every day, in every class to practice the skills of Speaking, Writing, Interacting, Reading and Listening- SWIRL.
As we are thinking about what is next for SWIRL, we are excited to launch SWIRL into every advisory classroom. Starting last week, and continuing weekly on Thursdays, we will be introducing a video of a community member or famous person talking to our students about how they use the skills in SWIRL in their careers. Our goal is for students to see SWIRL in every possible job- letting them know that SWIRL is apart of their future.
One way that you might engage your student in a conversation about school is to ask the question, "How was the SWIRL video from last week?"
Thank you to Brandon Bartow from Bartow Builders and Brix for sharing his story about SWIRL with our students.
