So What? Now What?

The end of the first nine-weeks brings a wonderful time for reflection! I heard many of you discussing your benchmark scores. You were asking kids why they missed questions and reviewing items you overlooked or they did not know. This is a great first step!

My challenge for you is to dig a little deeper! Take time to look back at your nine-week grades, your benchmark scores, and your lesson plans. Celebrate, learn, and grow as you reflect on the following questions (be specific and honest with yourself):

  1. What did my students do really well on during the 1st quarter?

  2. What did I do well during the 1st quarter?

  3. What standard did my students struggle with the most? Was my lesson plan/implementation as good for this standard as my best lesson?

  4. Did my assessments really reflect learning, or merely task completion or memorization skills?

  5. Was my attitude fixed on high standards and encouraging the best from my students?

  6. What ideas have I tried in my classroom lately to keep me energized about teaching?

  7. What have I done lately to relieve my stress and focus on my own mental health, to ensure I remain an effective leader of learning in my classroom?

  8. Now, what are you thinking you could do this quarter to grow and improve professionally to help your students?

Now breathe and relax. You are not presenting your reflection to me or anyone else in a formal paper or data review. If you would like to talk with one of the administrators and share – we would love to listen!! If you realize you need support in an area – reach out to Mrs. Miller! She is ready to work with you to find whatever tools you need to help our kids become more successful.

As we progress through the year, this process of reflection will also become one of sharing as we grow as individuals and a team. We are all working for a common mission: To prepare every child to be college and career ready! More specifically, we want every student to advance to the next level prepared for the challenges they will face in the future! Our LOAD is heavy and hard to manage many days - working together makes the burden much easier to carry and more enjoyable!

I could not ask to be a part of a more dedicated faculty! Continue to support each other as we move through the year! Your hard work and dedication will yield high results for our students! Extremely proud of the work you are doing for kids!!
