Monthly Memo from the Principal

Mrs. Robbins- May 2020

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

You may not know this about me, but in my career I have been a kindergarten teacher, high school teacher, and more famously, a high school cheer coach for 10 years. I worked at Leander High School. Each year we would host an end-of-year banquet to wrap up the school year, recognize hard work, hand out awards, and say goodbye to our Seniors. It was one of my favorite events of the year, but definitely the hardest. Saying goodbye to these young people that I had seen grow so much in their high school years, but had also left an imprint on my own life. They had changed me as a person. I did that for ten years and for all ten, there was one tradition that I carried out each time. I would read the book Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss. It is one of my most favorite books! It still is to this day. It says so many things that you want to share with people who are going through a transition in life.

When I became principal at Pleasant Hill in 2016, I knew immediately that I wanted to carry on this tradition with our fifth grade students. Every year in May, I have read most parts of this wonderful book to our fifth graders and their loving families. It is always hard to get through. My favorite lines in the whole book are the following:

"You'll get mixed up, of course,

as you already know.

You'll get mixed up

with many strange birds as you go.

So be sure when you step.

Step with care and great tact

and remember that Life's

a Great Balancing Act.

Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.

And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!"

We have three weeks left for us ALL to finish strong. It is still hard to believe that the year is wrapping up?! Although this year is ending very differently, it does not take away from how much of an impact your students have had on my life. On all of our lives. They have left a very clear imprint on our hearts. These kids can do anything that they put their minds to in life. And we cannot wait to see where they will go. We are blessed to have a front row seat for it all!

To our amazing fifth graders, thank you for being a PHEnomenal group of students. You have been kind, loving, funny, welcoming, spirited, competetive, bright, and also leaders. I have no doubt that we will see you go on to bigger and better things in middle school. Please remember that we are always here to support you and cheer you on. Once a husky, always a husky! Kids, you'll move mountains!

The end of this school year was not what anyone had imagined, but think of what it has taught us. Think on all of the great things that led up to this moment in time. We accomplished so many things this year. We look forward to moving forward with you all!

Please let us know if we can be of any support to you and your family! We love you all and miss our students terribly. Until we see each other again, stay safe and healthy.

Oh, the places WE will go...

Mrs. Robbins

Goodbye to our beloved Ms. Eubank!!

We would like to wish our sweet art teacher, Deboarh Eubank, a fond farewell as she will be retiring from education at the end of this school year. Ms. Eubank has been a teacher at PHE for 16 years and in Leander ISD a total of 31 years. She has left a beautiful and deep impression on us all. My favorite thing about her, as a principal, is that she is a constant supporter and will never let you cry alone. She will be missed dearly by our entire staff and all of our students. Please take a moment and thank her in your own way if possible. Her email address is deborah.eubank@leanderisd.org and will only be available until May 29th.

Thank you for everything Ms. Eubank!!! You have made our world more beautiful!

5th Grade Celebrations

In line with our district guidance, we will be moving forward with an online/virtual fifth grade graduation ceremony. We will be recording all parts and sharing the video with families to enjoy on their own time. There will also be a fun event the evening of Wednesday, May 27th. Please look for those details from your fifth grade teachers!

Lastly, once we have clearance, we will be hosting a yearbook signing event at PHE for everyone to attend per grade level. More details will be shared with the community, but only after we have been given clearance from the state and at the district level. Other events like Reunion Ranch will be cancelled due to not having Business Fair (which funds this field trip) and of course Covid-19 restrictions that prevent us from this type of gathering.

Last Call for 2019-2020 Yearbooks

We are so fortunate that our yearbook from this school year was completed before spring break and includes so many fun memories and events, like Field Day! You can still order your copy at this site. Please let us know if you have any difficulties ordering your copy. Sales will end soon!

Yearbook production will be slower than usual due to Covid-19, but will continue as soon as possible. We will be hosting a yearbook pass out and signing party at a later date. Again, we will wait and publicize that event once we have clearance from the state and district.

2020-2021 Enrollment Form

If your student(s) will be RETURNING to PHE, please take a moment to fill out this enrollment form as soon as you can. We need this information in order to move forward with hiring teachers for next year. Thank you!

Student Item Pick Up/Library Book Return

We will have two dates/times where you can come by PHE and pick up all of your student's personal belongings. Teachers will be packing up all of their supplies/notebooks/personal items and bagging them up for distribution. If you DO NOT want any of these items, you can email your teacher and let them know. Some students took personal items home before spring break. They would have notebooks/spirals possibly left behind.

The following are the two dates/times available in May:

Monday, May 18th from 6:00-7:00 PM

Wednesday, May 20th 10:00-11:00 AM

Please follow the same map for drive thru that was used for laptop distribution (see below). You can pull up with your student's name on a piece of paper with their grade. We will bring your student's items out in the bag and place in your backseat or in your trunk. Please do not get out of your car. Personal item bag pick up will be at the back of the school. Library book and resource drop off will be at the front of the school with Mrs. Green.

If you have medicine that belongs to your student, Nurse Heidi Rodriguez will have a process to pick those up on the same dates. She will be sharing information with you all as well. Her pick up with be at the front of the school.

Please bring your child's library books and SRP/small group readers back to PHE if possible. Mrs. Green will have a bin or cart available for returns.

Once school is out for the summer, we may offer another date for pick up and returns. That date and time is yet to be determined.

TECHNOLOGY is not due at this time. Laptops will be returned when we are back on campus. Fifth graders may take their laptops to their Leander ISD middle school. If you are MOVING, please contact Mrs. Robbins to arrange a separate drop off for technology.

Please let us know if you have questions!

Big picture

All About My Child

Forms are due soon! Please fill one out if you would like to provide Mrs. Robbins and her leadership team with input on your child. We read each form very carefully before working on classroom arrangements. Please provide us with this valuable information. We do not take teacher requests, but would love to know what kind of teacher you feel your student needs! Forms can be found here. Again, these are due by Friday, May 8th at 4:00 PM.

Did you know you can turn off Google Classroom notifications?

Some parents have expressed concerns with the amount of emails they receive and many due to Google Classroom. As you may not know, parents get an email every time their student receives a new assignment. If you would like, parents can just go to settings on Google Classroom, then go to Profile and turn email notifications off. We hope this helps cut down some of the notifications you are receiving from multiple platforms.
