Life before the constitution
3 types of people
Enslaved african american
Life is really harsh as a slave and the owners don't treat you well. My family and i work on a tobacco plantation. I work endless hours but my owner doesn't care. I have thought about running off to the slave free states but I have heard of stories about slaves trying to escape and they usually get caught. All I want is freedom, but even if i had freedom people would still treat me bad. I hope the government comes up with something better than the articles of confederation.
Farmer
I have a small piece of land and hardly any food grows. I can barely sell any food in town. I can't pay state taxes or debt. I can even be thrown in jail for not paying but the bank the lent me the money. Us farmers are taking the risk with Daniel Shays to take matters into our own hand by rebelling against the articles of confederation. We had no choice but in the long run we made our point.
Worker
I am a shoe maker in manchester, New hampshire. I was in debt for 50 dollars and i thought it would be easy to pay it off since the government was issuing paper money. The legislature voted to stop it. I am afraid of going to jail because it will be hard to return to where i was from scratch. I had to lower the price for my shoes cause now people don't want to pay as much. I just hope the constitution can make a change for the better.
