What Teachers Make
Dear Cougar Family,
A few weeks back, I sent a survey in the bulletin. One of the questions asked, "What makes a Cougar teacher different?" In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I thought I would share a few responses:
- We care about our students as people and do all we can to encourage and challenge them in their learning, in their extracurricular endeavors, and in their personal lives.
- I'm not sure that we are different individually from other good teachers. The campus is different as a whole because we have a much higher percentage of true professionals then most campuses. Our staff will do what needs to be done without it having to be "assigned" to do it.
- We may complain, but we always buck up and do what is best, we work hard inside and outside of the classroom, we go above and beyond, we strive for excellence.
- Meaningful relationships
- We pro-actively work to solve problems together that appear before us and work to prevent problems in the future. This allows us to maintain a positive attitude, which ultimately, keeps morale up. We aren't focused on just "getting by". We focus on refining our craft and support each other in this process. We are invested in our school and students. We care about issues that exist outside of our classroom and collectively work towards the betterment of our department and our school. We do not function as islands, yet we each are accountable for ourselves.
- Love of kids and school pride.
- Everyone works together to achieve a common goal, success for our students!
- We don't mind being held accountable.
- A cougar teacher is not satisfied with the status quo. A cougar teacher is passionate about providing every opportunity for all students to be successful. A cougar teacher "knows" they are a part of a family here at CSHS and therefore is not afraid to take risks. Risk taking is a necessary endeavor when one strives for excellence.
Thank you for loving each of our students--even those who are not easy to love. Thank you for sharing a common vision and keeping students first! Thank you all for continuing to pursue perfection and achieve excellence each day! You truly make a difference in the lives of our students.
Since, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week, please be on the lookout for emails throughout the week announcing special treats from the administrative team. Also, take a moment to watch the Taylor Mali poem, "What Teachers Make." It's an old one, but a good one, and it hits me in the feels every time.
May you have a wonderful week!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!

Testing Week Reminders
Testing week is upon us! We will have AP testing going on for the next 2 weeks (and the next week for some late testers). EOCs are Tuesday and Wednesday of THIS week (Thursday is the make-up day).
A few reminders:
- EVERYONE needs to sign in by 7:50 AM each day by the office so we know you are here for your assigned duties.
- If you need help getting your room ready, please submit this form.
- All of the training materials, green sheets (room rosters/testing partners), room use list, Oral Admin Guidelines, etc. are in the folder linked in Randi's email.
AESOP & Substitute Reminders
As we enter the final six weeks of school, here are just a few reminders:
PLEASE enter your absences AS SOON AS YOU KNOW about them. We will soon lose several subs when classes finish at A&M, so it will be more difficult to get last minute absences filled.
If you enter an absence for special fund, campus or district activity, please enter what it is for in the notes section for EVERY absence.
If you are doing anything with students and need to enter an absence, it is student activity.
If you are uncertain about anything regarding an absence, just email or call Lori!
Graduation 2017--Staff Duties
All teachers are expected to attend. Please sign up for your official graduation duty assignment here. If you are a parent of a senior, we will send out the sign-up soon for you to be able to give your son or daughter his/her diploma.
Graduation practice will be held on Thursday, May 25 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The 3rd period final will be complete with plenty of time for most teachers to be able to join us. Please take a look at your schedule and plan to be there.
In addition, we would love to have everyone join us for the Senior Sunset Supper in the CSHS cafeteria Thursday, May 25 at 6:30 PM.
Spring is in the Air!
Please remember that our common expectations are the key part of creating an environment at CSHS in which students can strive for success. Take a moment to make sure you are helping communicate these common expectations to our students (and to your sub via your sub notes):
1) IDs: Students must where them from when they enter the building to when they exit after school.
2) Tardies: Please do not let students in without a pass after the tardy bell.
3) Hall Passes: When a student leaves your classroom, he/she needs either a bathroom pass that clearly indicates the student is from your classroom and has permission to use the restroom nearest your room OR a blue hall pass that is completely filled out. More hall passes are available in the attendance office.
4) Hall Duty: Students should be met by lots of smiling faces as they make their way to the next class.
5) Dress Code: Short shorts, leggings without a fingertip-length shirt, and hats are the most consistent issues administrators are seeing. Please check students as they enter your classroom. Often, we do not see a student out of dress code until lunch, which means they've gone by at least 4 teachers before we see them.
