The Force of Learning is Strong
August 25, 2017
Thank you!
I just wanted to say thanks for a great first full week of school. Parents have helped with the car rider line, which is running like a well oiled machine, students and teacher are getting adjusted to their new schedules, and Mr. Pyrc, Mr. Beels, and I have been able to start visiting classrooms to let everyone know what our expectations will be for this school year.
PTO Update
Greetings from the BTMS PTO,
Mark your calendars for your beginning of the year meet and greet! We would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about volunteering opportunities with our PTO group! We have many new programs, school and event volunteer needs. Volunteering with our PTO is great way to connect not only with the students but the BTMS school family and community. Fundraising Information
The coupon book fundraiser is going well, and we want to thank everyone who has turned in orders so far. We've had a few students turn in large orders with cash and checks - if they had done easy pay they could have earned one or two free books! (Remember: 5 book orders done through EZPAY earns your student a free book). If you are comfortable with it, you may take that cash and submit the order through EZPAY yourself.
Also:
-If your student does not want to participate, they may turn in their envelope (with sample book) on one of the collection mornings.
- Be sure to mark the envelope if you are done selling. If you are still selling, hang on to your sample book.
-Remember when you are selling to always be safe - only knock on doors of people you know. Thanks for supporting your BTMS PTO!
School Improvement Council (SIC) Nominations-
We understadn the first week of school can be a little crazy so if you did not get a chance to nominate yourself or someone else to be part of the 2017-18 School Improvement Council, you can still do it.
The School Improvement Council (SIC) is an advisory body consisting of parents, teachers and community members. The BTMS SIC supports the educational environment by interacting with school administration around current year developments and by providing input for long-term strategic planning. The SIC does not make policy or control funding, but does contribute valuable advice and insight for decisions by staying informed and engaged in the Banks Trail community.
Nominations are now being accepted for parent representatives on the SIC for the 2017-18 school year. We welcome all nominations and strive to create a diverse and balanced roster of candidates that accurately represent our school. You may nominate as many candidates as you choose. Please use a separate form for each recommendation. Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged.
Please submit completed nomination forms by September1, 2017 to Elaine Sykes in the BTMS Main office (or email SykesE@fortmillschools.org).
The Nomination form can be found at this link: SIC Nomination Form
Making a Change Contest
We received the following message from Dr. Murdock (orthodontist), this week. His practice would like to give schools some free money! Here is what Dr. Murdock sent us:
I hope you had an enjoyable summer. With school just starting back, we know that all of you are very busy making sure that this is going to be the best school year possible! To make that happen, it takes dedication from faculty and staff, great leadership from the administration and adequate school funding. Because of our dedication to local schools, we've taken the lead in our community by making donations to 3 local schools through our fun and easy contest called our “Making-A-Change” contest! This will be our 3rd year doing this, and because of past successes, we've decided to make this a hallmark of our practice! The contest is quite simple, all people have to do is click on a link and vote for their favorite school!
The link embedded below will take people to our contest page on our website where we explain the contest and provide a “Vote Here” link for casting your vote. When the contest ends, the 3 local schools with the most votes will then be entered into a random drawing for donations amounts of $1000, $500, and $250!
We love doing this, because it emphasizes our practice’s commitment to local schools and our community. The voting will run through the end of September. We look forward to drawing your school’s name! :-)
