President's Report - Bonnie's Brush
Thank you Barbara for booking an excellent February program on Creative Women and the Glass Ceiling. Yes, we Pen Women are certainly creative. Bring your recent creative endeavors to the March meeting for Show and Tell. Some members entered the Strawberry Festival. Bring your entries to the next meeting as It doesn't matter if you got a ribbon or not. Life is like that.
The Nominating Committee headed by Judy Perez is working on finding leadership for the next two Pen Women years. Think about what you will to do to serve our Tampa Branch. We are not a "meet and eat" club; we are PEN WOMEN. I belong to several groups and find there is a unique place for my offerings, each different, some jobs small, some larger such as my current position in this Branch, but all important to the organization as a whole. Im sure if you search your heart, mind & soul you will find your place to serve too

New Project
In conjunction with her writing and research, she has a blog titled The 1940s Experience where she shares little bits of the home front life during wartime. She's delighted to be working on not only her next WWII Romance novel (Codename Eva) but also preparing a series of blog posts featuring friend of the family, artist, and crafter Gert Block. At 93, Gert has shared with Cat her personal 1940s experiences as a "Gray Lady" volunteer, finishing school, dating, and her career (which included meeting Salvadore Dali!)
Cat - and her mother Claire Gardiner - are honored to be a part of documenting Gert's story, and can't wait to share it with you all.

THE RED ROSE
I pinned a red rose o'er my heart,
The rose my lover gave to me,
With many vows and tender words,
My love, my own, I love but thee.
I wore the red rose o'er my heart,
That summer day with gladness,
And knew not doubt nor haunting care,
Nor slightest touch of sadness.
But ah! a thorn's within my heart,
A thorn of false love's planting,
Deceit had pressed its bitter sting,
My life forever haunting.
I took the red rose from my heart,
No more, oh love, 'tis blowing,
The thorn lies deep within my breat,
Where never sign is showing.
