Professional Development Opportunity - Innovative Solutions to Classroom Behaviors
A new cohort is being developed to explore the research-based practices for social-emotional learning, to prepare teachers to align philosophical beliefs and actions to improve student behavior, and to support and develop the whole child. The cohort will meet 7 times over the course of the 2017-2018 school year. A variety of resources will be used to plan and implement these peer-facilitated sessions. Online components may complement the face-to-face training. The cohort approach allows adult learners opportunities for academic learning, emotional support, and perspective broadening. Attend the information session on Thursday, May 4, 3:45 p.m. at D-B EXCEL. Click here for more information or to register. If questions, please contact Stephanie Potter, spotter@k12k.com or x-5193.

Unique Opportunities for Science Study!
Take your students behind the scenes at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science without leaving your classroom! "Scientists in Action: Mountains of Bones," a live Q&A session with paleontologists who will share their discoveries from the Avenir Collections Center on April 20. Journey through time with our paleontologists as they discuss how the scientific study of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures informs our understanding of the world today. This FREE program puts your students in the driver’s seat as they connect with real scientists and ask questions they care about. With only a computer and a webcam you can connect with us live from your classroom. Sign up today to claim your spot! NOTE: You must register to participate in this and other events.
Looking for more fun virtual field trips to take before the end of the school year? Let your students explore an archaeological site that dates back to 5000 BC with Scientists in Action: Rediscovering Magic Mountain on May 10th. Or check out our Virtual Science Academy, which offers award-winning, interactive experiences that bring the best of the Museum directly to you. All classes align with NGSS and make classroom life easier by presenting content that aligns with school curriculum.

Warrior Whoop! (celebrations and recognitions)
- We got behind on announcing WOW Award Winners! Below are the last two worthy recipients of this faculty/staff award!
The following is from Erika Slaughter, our most recent W.O.W recipient:
It is very hard to pick just one member of the staff to get this award, but the person that continues to stand out in my mind is Julie Tester!! Julie is always ready to do anything and everything for someone when they need help! She has taken over two classes for the past few weeks, and never complained once! She will always go the extra mile no matter the task! She brings joy to this building always lifting up the staff and students! She is a true blessing to the Sevier family!
- Congratulations to our own 8th Grade Social Studies teacher, John Mallick, who was recently accepted to the Library of Congress Teacher Summer Institute!
