Hawks Happenings

March 2023

What happened to February?

My goodness, February flew by! It is hard to believe that we are in the middle of our 3rd nine weeks of school! Thank you for all you are doing to support student learning.

Thank you for your support of our Read-a-Thon! This event was created by Literacy Team to create excitement about reading and to help build student reading stamina. I hope that your family will continue to encourage your child to read at home even when this event had come to an end.

Friday, March 3rd is our Book Character Parade Day! Please help your child dress up and bring a copy of the book with them to school to carry during the parade. If you are running tight on time, remember that there are a lot of books with characters who wear regular clothes! Grab a shirt the right color and you are good to go!

Staff Shout Outs!

Our staff at NBES is top notch! I would love to recognize Angela Woehl and Kourtney Yelton who will be joining several BCS Digital Learning Facilitator, Wendy Fusco, to present at the NCTIES Conference next week! NCTies is an association for educators and educator leaders engaged in advancing excellence in learning and teaching through the effective use of technology.

Thank you to these specialists for incorporating technology into their lessons while integrating literacy concepts students are learning in their classrooms!

BCS Leaders visit NBES for Wit & Wisdom training

Last year Buncombe County Schools adopted the Wit & Wisdom literacy curriculum. Teachers and administrators are still working to refine their understanding of this new program. On Wednesday, March 1st, several BCS administrators and curriculum coaches visited NBES to participate in training led by Wit & Wisdom staff. Three staff members welcomed this group into their classrooms to see a snippet of a literacy lesson. A HUGE thank you to Crystal Reece, Brittany Whitson and Kelly Penley for being willing to help with this training!

Happy Social Worker Week to AnnMarie McBride!

AnnMarie McBride is the ultimate problem solver! She works with school staff and families to look for solutions that benefit children! We are so appreciative of the work that Ms. McBride does to support our school!

March 6 - 12 is National School Social Worker Week!
