Art Showcase During Open House

K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students will have a clay project to bring home at Open House this Thursday , May 18 from 5:30-7pm.

I recommend you bring a shoe box or stiff tote bag with a kitchen towel to keep the projects safe.

The students have worked really hard and are looking forward to taking the pieces home safely with your help.

Grade 4 will have their clay projects in their classroom.

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders will have their projects in the art room.

Please plan to stop by and get their work.

I am sure parents carrying them will be safer than traveling in a student’s backpack!

Also be sure to check out the artwork on the walls:

  • 5th grade students have their one-point-perspective buildings in the gym hallway and their 5th grade tiles installed in the 2nd grade hallway.

  • 4th graders have contour line drawings of hands giving a note to the world at bottom of ramp and above the lego wall.

  • 3rd grade has Self Portraits - Room 31 and 33 are in showcase by gym. Rm 32’s are in classroom. Rm. 45 has contemporary self portraits in the gym hallway and traditional portraits in the classroom.

  • 2nd Grade has figure drawings telling stories about recess. Rm 21 and 22 are in gym hallway. Rm 23 is by cafeteria food line entrance.

  • 1st grade has a sampling of colorful landscapes in the style of Alma Thomas across from the Budding Imaginations Gallery.

  • Kindergarten – K1 has pond turtles by kdg entrance. K2 and K3 have Shape Creations across from room K3. Rm. 25 has Rainbow Fish in gym hallway.

Honor a Teacher by Helping Our Kids

Teacher appreciation week is right around the corner. This is the perfect time to show our Salford Hills staff how much they are appreciated. Staff members were asked to update their Amazon wish list with items that will help them continue to provide an environment of love, learning, and kindness for our students. If you choose to participate, Your child can choose an item to purchase from a staff member’s list. They can even include a special gift message or kind words for the recipient!

Playground Revitalization Campaign

This year, spurred by the addition of full-day Kindergarten, a small committee began discussing how we could improve our playground as it lacks enough developmentally appropriate options for younger children. The conversation evolved into how we could potentially revitalize the entire SH playground experience through upgraded equipment for all ages, encouraging exploration and imaginative play, and better utilizing the blacktop as a safe play space. However, playgrounds are not funded by the state but rather partially through teacher-requested grants or more likely – Home & School associations. Therefore, in order to fund such a significant project, we will need to add fundraisers in addition to our annual Race for Education. The Race for Education has always been a wonderful and effective fundraiser as it funds ALL of our numerous activities, assemblies, field trips and so much more. Home & School could not function without it. Additional fundraisers would not replace the Race for Education, but specifically raise money for the Playground Revitalization Campaign.

Our expectation is that the playground will be a 3-5 year project, with the potential to make certain enhancements each year. This year will focus on Phase 1 (small scale, big impact) -- addressing some immediate needs and creating a better play space on the blacktop. This is a new and evolving endeavor that we hope will benefit children for years to come. Please feel free to email your ideas, questions or concerns to board@salfordhillshsa.org. Thank you for your support!
