Interim Reports
As your child receives his/her first quarter interim progress report on Tuesday, October 9, we encourage you to review the feedback with him/her. Consider asking him/her what they believe he/she is doing well and what areas may require a little more effort. Set some goals and develop a plan for how he/she may reach that goal. Praise him/her for the persistence shown in school thus far.
Coca-Cola Gives!
We are excited to share that Lisbon is a part of the Coca-Cola Give program. Lisbon will receive cash for your Coca-Cola products! The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes at: https://us.coca-cola.co/give/schools/ and we will receive a donation. We thank you in advance for selecting Lisbon Elementary and scanning or entering product codes from participating Coca-Cola products. If you are unable or would rather send in your Coca-Cola bottle tops (with the product code on it), we will enter them for you.
Guidelines for School Visitation
The Howard County Public School System welcomes visitors to our schools. To limit interruptions and distractions to teaching and learning, and to maximize safety for everyone, persons who wish to visit a school building or classroom are asked to comply with the following procedures:
- Anyone wishing to visit a school is asked to contact the Principal to discuss the purpose of the visit and to establish a convenient time for both the visitor and the school.
- A teacher will be notified, either orally or in writing, in advance by a school administrator that a visit to their classroom has been requested. The teacher may request that the visit be rescheduled.
- Upon entering a school, all visitors must sign in at the main office and receive a visitor badge.
- To avoid interrupting instruction, no students are allowed to shadow HCPSS students.
- Understandably, interactions between visitors and school staff and students will be limited.
- If a follow-up meeting with school staff is desired, the visitor will schedule it for a mutually convenient time.
Important Policy Information
A Student/Parent Handbook 2018-2019 was sent home to every family the first day of school with important policies for parents and student to become familiar with. We would like to communicate one of these policies.
Student Discipline (Policy 9200)
Effective July 1, 2014, Policy 9200 has been revised to reflect changes to the Code of Maryland Annotated Regulations as they relate to Student Discipline 13A.08.01.11. Updates to Policy 9200, Student Discipline, will be applied in the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct.
The Board of Education recognizes that student discipline regulations should reflect a continuum of progressive discipline and a rehabilitative discipline philosophy with the goals of fostering, teaching and acknowledging positive behavior, and should be designed to keep students connected to school so that they may graduate college and career ready.
Student behavior is the shared responsibility of the school, the student and the home. The professional staff at a school has the responsibility for taking appropriate action when a student is involved in a situation that is not conducive to a safe, engaging and orderly environment.
Disciplinary consequences should be progressive in nature and designed to change inappropriate behavior, encourage responsible actions and promote the development of self-discipline. The student has the right to due process. The Board of Education has approved the following forms of discipline:
Alternative Educational Setting – A setting outside of the home school designed to accommodate the needs of students who have demonstrated the need for significant academic or behavioral support.
Detention – The placement of a student in a non-standard, supervised setting during the school day, before or after school or on Saturdays.
Restricted Access – Limitation of a student’s presence on school property.
Suspension – The denial of a student’s right to attend regular classes or school for a specified period of time for cause. Suspension includes extended suspension, in school suspension, short-term suspension or long-term suspension.
Student Dress Code (Policy 9210)
Student dress and appearance are the basic responsibility of students and their parents/guardians as long as they are consistent with the school system’s responsibility to ensure that school environments are healthy, safe and conducive to student learning. It is a violation of this policy for any student to wear attire that interferes with the educational mission of the schools, is disruptive to the school environment, or that could endanger the health or safety of that student or others during school hours and school activities. This includes, but is not limited to, attire that:
Unduly exposes or reveals skin or undergarments. This may include: tank tops; halter tops; tops that are strapless, low cut or expose the midriff; pants worn low or loose that expose skin or undergarments.
Causes or is likely to cause a substantial or material disruption to school activities or the orderly operation of the school. This may include buttons, display bands, armbands, flags, decals or other badges of symbolic expression.
Covers the head, including hats, sunglasses, bandanas, hoods and visors, or head coverings of any kind.
Picture Day on October 11th
Strawbridge Studios will be at Lisbon Elementary on Thursday, October 11th. ALL students will be photographed for the memory book. Picture flyers will be sent home with your child(ren) closer to the October 11th date.

Love for Cooper
Are you looking to support the Trueblood family? With frequent trips to and from the hospital, the family could use our support for things like gas, meals away from home, and specific items for Cooper. Gift cards are ideal (Visa and Amazon are two good general ones.), and these are being collected in the front office. You can drop them off or send them to school in an envelope marked “Cooper Trueblood.” Your thoughts and prayers are great gifts, too!
School Supply Donations
Our friends at Phelps Luck Elementary need our help! PLES is in need of: boxes of tissues, primary writing journals (journals with primary, dotted, handwriting lines and picture space), and poly expanding files (plastic expandable files with a rubber band closure and file divider pockets inside, for 8.5x11 letter size papers). Simply send your items to LES with your child or place them in the collection bin in front of the school office. Thank you SO much for your donation and ROARsome support of our HCPSS family!
