Dear Mathew Parents,
Thank you in advance for taking a moment to read this message.
We are living through a pandemic. Covid 19 is a health crisis. We continue to promise you we will do everything to keep your children safe while they are at school learning.
First, and foremost, the safety of our students and our staff is the primary focus in guiding all decisions.
Although we have received notification of confirmed positive cases in our Mathews community, it is important to note that we have not had one transmission occur on our campus.
As a campus, our students and our staff are practicing social distancing, frequent hand washing/sanitizing and mask wearing.
In our primary K, 1, and 2 grades if students are not wearing their masks while sitting at their desk, they are wearing their face shields.
Our teacher and our custodial team sanitize their classrooms surfaces, plexiglass screens and partitions each day.
If we have a class that has a direct contact with a confirmed positive case we immediate notify our parents and convert back to 'School to Home' learning the following day.
We can only go so far in regards to what we do at school. We need your help at home as well.
- Please promote social distancing, mask wearing and limiting gatherings outside of school. Birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. are times to celebrate and cherish....just in a different way this year. Spending time as a family celebrating these events at home are still special and make beautiful memories.
- Please pick up calls in the evening from Mathews. When we are contact tracing and and notifying parents we will call you. Typically, we do not receive notification until early evening. We really want to visit with you to answer any questions you may have. As a last resort we will leave a voice message followed by an email. Members of our Mathews Administrative team will call parents as quickly as possible as quarantine begins the very next day. In addition a separate email will be sent out to the entire Mathews community as an update.
- Please send your child to school with their masks each day.
- Please wash your child's masks on a regular basis. It also helps prevent other illnesses such as Strep.
Together, we are a team for our students/your children. Thank you for your help working with us during this time. More information is provided below.
Reminders:
A couple of reminders coming up soon for this time of year. They are a couple of weeks away, but you may need to be planning now...
- Remember before you go to sleep on Halloween night, to set your clocks back and enjoy an extra hour of sleep!
- A reminder that there is no school on Tuesday, November 3: We do have classes on Monday, November 2.
YEARBOOK:
Please see below. It is heartbreaking that we could lose this tradition. Yearbooks capture memories and friendships forever. Please don't let this tradition end!
VETERANS DAY:
Sadly, we will not be able to open our doors for annual Veterans Day celebration; but that does not mean we won't celebrate a different way. Please read information below regarding Veterans Day 2020!
Don't Let Our Yearbook Become Extinct!
Hello Mathews families!
We are desperately in need of a yearbook chair for this year. Unfortunately, without a volunteer stepping up to work this important role, we will not have a yearbook this year.
Now is the time when the chair needs to select a yearbook company, determine needs of the company and their role vs. ours, start thinking about what you want in the yearbook and start taking pictures and collecting pictures from families.
Please let me know if you are interested or if you know someone that would be a great fit for the role. The kids love their yearbook (especially our "graduating" 5th graders) so hopefully someone can find the time to take on this important job!

VETERANS DAY
Thank You Ms. Eldridge & Mr. Taylor!
With your help, Ms. Eldridge is bringing an Honor Wall for our Veterans to Mathews so our Face to Face students and staff will always be reminded of our heros who have served our country. This will no doubt become a new Mathews tradition in the years to come!
You can access the format by clicking the button below.
Examples are provided below the button.
In addition, Mr. Taylor will also be creating a virtual tribute to celebrate our family and friends who are veterans. If you would like to submit a picture of your special veteran, you can email it to Mr. Taylor at Justin.Taylor@pisd.edu. Please include your special veteran's name and ties to Mathews. Your picture may include your vet with family members as well if you like. It will be part of the online virtual tribute.

Mathews SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Signing Your Child Out of School
Office staff will sign the student out, documenting both the time the student left the building, as well as the time the parent requested for early dismissal.
Your child will be brought to you. You will need to provide ID to pick up your child when your child is brought to the front entrance by staff as it may not be Mrs. Tipsword who walks your child to the front door. Thank you.
