Assuring Learning Excellence and Readiness for a Changing World
Spring is Here!
Our Scarlet Family is growing! Jennie Helget and her husband Steven are expecting their 2nd child in September. Congratulations, Jennie!
Mary Berg has been awarded the MACTA (Minnesota Association for Career and Technical Administration) Award for Outstanding CTE Teacher in Minnesota in her role as a Work-Based Learning Coordinator for Mankato Area Public Schools. She will be recognized on April 11th, 2019 at the MACTA Awards Banquet at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel.
Mary's dedication to CTE through work-based learning has caught the attention of CTE Administrators across the state. This award is given annually to one teacher who demonstrates the embodiment of Career & Technical Education in our state and the communities that we serve. Congratulations!
Katherine Nelson, a senior at Mankato West High School has been selected for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship, which funds an academic year of school study and cultural immersion in Germany for a select group of American students.
The CBYX program is funded jointly by the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag as a symbol of the special economic and political relationship between America and Germany. Katherine is one of only 25 students nationwide to receive this prestigious scholarship. She will be spending the 2018-2019 academic year living with a German host family and attending a local school in Germany, and participating in various internships in the area of engineering.
Assistant Principal Week
Thank you, Brian and Mike!
Staff Meeting
I am going to change the schedule for our staff meetings this month. This Wednesday, we will meet as a large group in the Media Center at 3:15pm. It's been awhile since we have all been together! Please sit with your Life Journey small group. We will take some time to discuss the article that was shared out a few weeks ago. Questions that will guide our discussions will include: What did you agree with, and what did you disagree with? What challenged your thinking? What resonated with you?
Here is the schedule for our 4th quarter staff meetings:
Meet with your department - create common re-take practices and weighted grade books
3:15 - 3:35 - April 24, May 8
Life Journey Staff meetings in the Media Center
3:15 - 3:35 - April 10, May 22
Life Journey Small Group meetings
3:15 - 3:35 - April 17, May 15
*These dates are set aside for your small group meetings, although you are not required to meet at this time. Your group may decide to meet at a different time if it works better for the group.
Schedule Changes
On Friday, we will have a play cutting between 6th and 7th period. We will use Schedule B.
Shining Scarlets
This Friday is our 3rd quarter Shining Scarlet Breakfast at 7:15am in the cafeteria. Thank you for taking the extra time to nominate students! Just a reminder, essays are due Wednesday, April 10th.
Please join us! If you arrive after 7:15, please use the cafeteria door closest to the receiving room door. The program is usually finished by 7:45. This is a great opportunity to connect with parents and students!
Curriculum Writing
In an attempt to be more effective and efficient in the curriculum writing process, as well as honor everyone’s time over the summer, Teaching and Learning has identified three two-day work sessions for teams to choose from to complete this work. These dates include June 10-11; June 18-19; OR August 12-13. All workdays are scheduled from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. Teams need to decide which of the two-day work session they will attend together. If teams need additional writing time outside of this two-day work session, that decision will be made on a case by case basis.
Please complete this form for each of the courses from your department that will work through the curriculum writing process this summer. You will need to identify who will be part of the writing team, as well as which 2-day work session dates they will attend. Remember that this request form includes all secondary courses for grades 6-12. Please reach out to your middle school colleagues to determine their summer curriculum writing needs as well. This form can also be found on the High School and Middle School Curriculum pages, through the Teaching and Learning button in the OmniID portal.
