Honeoye Secondary School News
November 2023
Top of the Region Performance is Cause for Celebration!!
Our students are performing at a higher level across the board......
As we near the Thanksgiving Holiday (No School November 22-24) I want to express my gratitude to the staff and parents working collectively to best position our students to grow and achieve at a high level. I also want to thank our students for applying themselves and taking advantage of what is offered in terms of support. The impact of these actions is evident as we look to our students' performance on the 2022-2023 New York State Assessments in Math, English Language Arts (ELA) and Science given at the end of last school year.
Each grade level (6, 7 and 8) demonstrated higher levels of proficiency (virtually all with double digit increases in growth percentage) when compared to the year prior. Our students are performing at a higher level across the board! This was true for Grade 6 ELA, Grade 7 ELA and Grade 8 ELA as well as Grade 6 Math, Grade 7 Math, Grade 8 Math and Grade 8 Science (The Science assessment is given in grades 4 and 8 only).
Not only are our students demonstrating significant growth, but in a few areas, scored the highest in the entire Wayne Finger Lakes Region (There are 25 schools in the Wayne Finger Lakes Region)! Honeoye's 2022-2023 Grade 6 performance in Math demonstrated the highest percentage of students achieving proficient scores on the New York State Test in the entire region and our Grade 8 Math students achieved the second highest percentage (missing the number 1 spot by just 4%)! This growth and achievement is certainly worthy of celebration. We are very proud of our students' effort and appreciate your support as we continue to help them attain their best outcomes.
Quarter 1 Grade Report
Families should expect to receive their child's Quarter 1 grade report during the week of November 20. Quarter 2 is now underway and will end on January 26.
Fall Play Update
The Fall Play was temporarily on hold, but is now back on as Honeoye welcomes Mr. Sander (Sandy) Nagar to the role of Director. Mr. Nagar comes to Honeoye with many years of theatre experience as both a Director and Producer. Mr. Nagar has worked with students ranging in age from elementary school to the college level. The original performance date has been postponed and additional information will follow.
January Midterm Week Schedule
Please see the following structure for our January Midterm/Regents week:
Grade 6: Classes will be in session the entire week 1/22-1/26
Grades 7 and 8: Classes will be in session 1/22-1/25 (There will be no classes for these grades on 1/26)
Grades 9/12: Classes will be in session on 1/22. These students will then only report to school if they have an exam on 1/23-1/25 (There will be no classes for these grade levels on 1/26).
This year we will be administering the English Regents to all Grade 11 students on January 23 at 8:00a.m. In the past, the majority of Juniors have taken the English Regents in June. The reasoning for the change largely revolves around easing the testing load for students at the end of the year and choosing a predominantly skill based subject area for students to test on. Students will have the option to retake this test in June if they wish to try to improve their score.
Details regarding meals and transportation during this week will follow.
Upcoming Dates to Note
- National Honor Society Induction Ceremony: November 16 in the Cafeteria from 7:00-9:00p.m.
- Thanksgiving Recess: November 22-24 (No School)
- Public Hearing: Capital Project: November 29 in the LGI from 6:00-8:00p.m.
