Human Rights Violation
How Does Gang Violence Lead to Human Rights Violations?
Gang Violence violates article 25: Right to Adequate Living Standard. This issue is important because our neighborhoods aren't safe for non gang related people. Reasons why our neighborhoods aren't safe is because Chicago Police reported 340 murders through Dec.20 (2014), while Cook County medical examines office reported 410 homicides, including 16 fatal police shootings. Also more people are killed in Chicago 419 than U.S soldiers in Afghanistan 259. The murder rate of Chicago this year (Oct.18, 2014) is nearly four times higher than New York City and more than 2.5 times higher than Los Angeles. But Chicago's population is three times smaller than that of NYC and nearly twice as small as Los Angeles's population. And one weekend in 2014 a little girl was just one of 47 shooting victims, and 5 of those were fatal.
