The 2015-2016 University Forum will kick off on September 22 with Rick Bragg, the former correspondent for the New York Times whose “elegantly written stories about contemporary America" were awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1993. Bragg has recently authored a best-selling biography of music legend Jerry Lee Lewis and a collection of essays titled My Southern Journey: True Stories from the Heart of the South. In June 2015, Rick Bragg was named one of twelve initial inductees, along with Zora Neale Hurston and Harper Lee, into the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame. A book signing will follow the talk.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Change Your Password

Recently, a number of Eagleapps (USM Gmail) accounts, including those of many Honors College students, were compromised. This has caused an increase in spam attacks and other hacks. Whether or not you think you've been hacked, we highly recommend that you change your password!

Online Training for All USM Students

You have recently received emails from "Workplace Answers eLearning” about a course called “Student Empower Plus.” Please note that this is not spam. This is a mandatory training course required for all USM students and designed to inform you of the code of conduct, your rights as a student to report harassment, discrimination, stalking, etc., and the contact information/options to report an incident.

Note that as part of the training there is an optional survey designed to gauge campus climate issues. If you wish to skip the survey or any of its questions, you may do so by hitting the “skip” button. If you have any questions about this training, please e-mail compliance@usm.edu.

Helping With Research

My name is Kinsey Eiland and I am a senior Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management major at the University of Southern Mississippi. I am working with the Honors College to research factors that affect guest service in the restaurant industry and I need your help. Below are the links to two different surveys.

The first survey link is for anyone who has recently dined at a restaurant, the second survey link is for anyone who has worked in the restaurant industry for more than 6 months. Both surveys are short and should not take more than 5-10 minutes to complete. I am hoping to have all my data collected by October 1st. Your participation is very highly appreciated!

1. Survey for guests

2. Survey for workers
