HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT

Greetings from the Art Room! All of our artists will be working on so many engaging and exciting projects and concepts all throughout the school year. Students will have opportunities to strengthen their fine motor skills, creative problem solving and critical thinking skills, and express themselves visually, kinesthetically, and auditorily.

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING

Each grade level has set goals and expectations that align with the North Carolina Visual Arts Education Standards and the National Visual Arts Education Standards. Our objective in art is to work to meet these standards by the end of the school year by scaffolding projects to help build upon the skills, concepts, and principles taught from lesson to lesson. Students will dive into projects that are structured in a cross-curricular, STEAM-based fashion to reinforce learning happening in other core subjects, while simultaneously utilizing The Elements and Principles of Art to create, explore, and innovate.

MEET YOUR TEACHER

My name is Lauren Oravsky and I'm so excited to be the art teacher between Wilkesboro Elementary School and North Wilkesboro Elementary School! Originally from New Jersey, I moved to North Carolina during the Spring of 2020 and began teaching in Catawba County. After giving birth to my son, I stayed home with him for a year before returning to the classroom. I was fortunate and blessed Mrs. Spears and Mrs. Samples offered me the art position here, keeping me close to home and my son's school.


Graduating in 2010 and again in 2014 from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree focused in Illustration and a Master of Visual Arts Education degree. While living in New Jersey, I taught in the West Windsor - Plainsboro Regional School District and spent my weekends and summers teaching at Moore College of Art and Design. Creating and teaching art is a passion of mine, as well as being a perpetual, lifelong learner.


General interests and hobbies include creating art and books, reading, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, camping, and spending as much time with my family as possible. <3
