Dear JUHSD Families,

As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, I want to share an excellent resource for celebrating Black History compiled by the San Mateo County Office of Education, which you can access here. These resources are a wonderful tool to engage with Black art and celebrate Black leaders throughout the year.

Please take a few minutes to review the latest updates from our school district:

  1. President’s Week: There are no classes next week. The District Office will remain open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, February 16-18.

  2. Return to Campus Question and Feedback Form: San Mateo County remains in the Purple Tier, and the JUHSD Return to School Committee met this week to continue work on the Return Plan for Hybrid Instruction. While we are still in distance learning, we know that many of you have questions and/or wish to share your concerns with us.

In order to provide our students, parents, and staff with an easy way to share questions and comments about returning to campus, we have created a Return to Campus Question and Feedback Form. Feel free to use this form to submit any questions you may have about returning to campus. The JUHSD Director of Communications and Staff Housing will review all responses, and work with other District staff to provide an answer as quickly as possible. The answers to frequent questions will be published in a Return to Campus FAQ, which will be posted on our website soon.

  3. Vaccinations: COVID-19 vaccines are currently rolling out for those who are 65 and older. While COVID-19 vaccine supply remains limited, you can sign up for San Mateo County’s notification tool to receive notification when the State makes you eligible and information about how you may get an appointment.

  4. Career Technical Education: Please join me in thanking the JUHSD CTE Teachers and CTE Counselors for their dedication and time in building academically rigorous and relevant work-based pathways: Career Technical Education Teacher on Special Assignment Denise Shreve; Jefferson High School’s Amanda Olson, Cristina Lewis, Joel Bruxvoort , Dave Dyssegard , Heike Mansel , and Jose Villalobos; Westmoor High School’s Michael Simon, Ben Pham, Terri Cabarle, John Lavine, and Anne Carew; Terra Nova High School’s Scot Schneider, Paul Spinetti, Alyssa Jenkins and Aliah Singh.

  5. You are invited to attend JUHSD's District Advisory Committee (DAC) Meeting on Monday, March 1, 2021 from 6:30 PM - 7:45 PM. During this meeting, we will share the updates on the District's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and review the federal budget allocation for 20-21. Please click here to RSVP.

Today marks the beginning of Lunar New Year festivities for the Year of the Ox, symbolizing positivity and resilience for the year ahead. The rich and historic celebrations of Lunar Year will continue with virtual festivities around the Bay Area. I hope everyone is able to have some fun over this long weekend and enjoy the opportunity to celebrate new beginnings.

Warmly,

Toni Presta
