Student Learning Experiences

This week, our 5th Grade students had an opportunity to visit the STEMi Mobile Innovation Station, which was parked right outside of our middle school (OPPA).

The STEMi provided learners simultaneous access to 1,000 square feet of interactive high-tech industry equipment. Learners build career awareness and self-efficacy through hands-on experiences with autonomous vehicles, collaborative robots, extended reality and smart manufacturing.

Thank you to our 5th Grade Teachers: Mr. Carter, Ms. Nelson, and Mrs. Williams (Merritt) for taking our learners to have this experience. Thank you to our Title I Teacher, Mrs. Trice, for working with our middle school team to provide this opportunity!

COVID-19 Reminders & Updates

Parents/Guardians, it is very important that you do the following every single school day:

  1. Complete our daily COVID screener using the Clear to Go app. You can download this app from any app store. Enter the phone number on your child's school account in order to register.
  2. Send your child to school with a reusable water bottle. There are water refilling stations throughout our school. Students can not drink from the fountains.
  3. Send your child to school with a mask. Too many students are coming without masks and we do not have enough masks to continue to give out daily. Please send them with a mask every day (or put 5 in their bookbag for the week).
  4. Monitor your child for any symptoms and if they are sick, please keep them home. Then contact the main office.

Communication

  • If your child does contract COVID-19, or they are exposed to someone with COVID-19, please call our school immediately at (248) 336-7610.
  • If your child is ever exposed to a close contact at school, meaning they were near a positive person within 3 ft or less for over 15 minutes, then you will be notified. The typical time out of school is 10-14 days.
  • Due to HIPPA laws, we have to protect every person’s medical information. We can never share the name of any person (staff or student) who may come down with the virus.

Addressing Parent Concerns

If you have any concerns regarding anything in your child’s classroom, please contact the teacher first. They will have first-hand knowledge of all situations.

If you have a concern about anything outside of your child’s classroom, you can contact the principal, Mrs. Murphy, at the school’s office number or by email at shana.murphy@opsk12.org.

School Dismissal & Early Dismissal

We understand that we have changed our dismissal from years before. Please know that our main priority is to keep your child (and everyone else’s) safe. We can only do that if we have an orderly process.

For dismissal, please do not block the doorways. For those with siblings/cousins from OPPA who pick up siblings/cousins from Key, remind them not to block the doorway.

EARLY DISMISSAL ENDS AT 2:30PM SO WE CAN PREPARE FOR WHOLE SCHOOL DISMISSAL.

Parents, it takes a lot to organize a safe and orderly dismissal of 500 students, with our youngest being 4 years old. Please be patient during dismissal!
