News From the Nest

Week of April 25-29, 2022

Dear Audubon Park School Community,

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday for the first APSK8 Bike Rodeo! Special thanks to Safe Routes APS, led by Erin Hearn for organizing this experience for our students to practice bike handling and maneuvering. It was a great morning of instruction from local pros and a chance for our riders to demonstrate important biking skills.

Last week, our Special Area Team put on a wonderful Earth Day rotation experience for our students. Visual and performing arts, Recycling Relays and Yoga outdoors were all a part of our Earth Day Celebration on Friday. Students across campus joined in for a Reuse Competition and used design thinking protocols to develop new uses for materials that would be trash.

Our track season came to an end on Wednesday with a great showing by our team against Maitland and Carver, taking 2nd place overall. We are proud of our team and coaching staff! Many thanks to the staff volunteers who also helped us host the home meet. Individual students qualified for District Cluster Championships, which are upcoming.

Congratulations are also in order for 8th grader Zion Walden Holmes. She was our school-wide Speech Winner and just was named the 2nd place winner in the OCPS Innovation Learning Community, competing against 26 other schools. Amazing job, Zion!

May is going to be a busy month. Please stay up to date on important events and testing dates. Our website and social media channels are good places to find current information, as well as Teacher and Grade Level Newsletters. You'll want to SAVE THE DATE for our Family Event "APSK8 Takes Flight" on May 19th. Let's celebrate a great year by enjoying a night of everything flight-related from birds to aviation.

Registration for the 2022-2023 Extended Day Program can be found on the school website. https://audubonparkk8.ocps.net/ Please note, prices have changed. Turning in paperwork guarantees your placement for next year.

Looking forward to a great week!
