School Opening Update

School will start ONLINE September 8, 2020

The West Ada Board of Trustees adopted starting the school year in red status (all remote) for the first week of the school year, starting September 8, 2020. Due to our dependency on them for busing and food service, MMACHS Board of Directors approved our school opening to be in red (remote learning) as well. If Central District Health changes their guidance and puts us back into a yellow category, we will be able to switch to a Hybrid Learning System as soon as busing with West Ada can be established. We will update you as soon as we have more information, but for now we are starting the year with remote learning.

With this change of events, it is even more important that your student attend our MMACHS 101 orientation session next week. We will provide valuable information for them to get their year started with success.

For clarity, we will be using the terms REMOTE for online learning and AT SCHOOL for in person instruction.

Schedules in Powerschool

If you have updated your forms in PowerSchool, your student will now be able to see their class schedule. Please note, all students have been divided into two teams, TEAM 1 and Team 2. This will be important information to know when we are able to go to a Hybrid Learning System (Yellow). When that happens, we will send you an updated schedule so you know which team has Remote learning days versus At School. In the meantime, the current schedule and calendar showing A, B and C days for REMOTE learning and Bell Schedules are attached below. If you still need to update your information on PowerSchool, there is also an attachment with directions on how to do so.

All students are required to wear a mask and bring a laptop, (9th graders who need devices will have them issued prior to their first session at MMACHS 101-(They must have the completed laptop checkout paperwork with them in order to take the laptop home ). Students will also need their backpacks to bring home textbooks and other class materials checked out to them.

MMACHS 101 Parent Session NOW VIRTUAL

We had a tremendous response to our parent night! We were so pleased to see how many parents wanted to be involved and informed. Unfortunately, with COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing requirements, it did create a problem. For this reason (and number restrictions for a live stream), we will be recording the entire presentation and will send out a link to all of our parents to watch the presentation at your convenience. We will also include a link to submit any questions you have regarding the presentation or the upcoming school year.

Students will be taught via LIVE STREAM

When students are learning from home (REMOTE), MMACHS instruction will be live streamed. They will be watching the same lesson the students would see if they were at school. The expectation is that students will zoom in for each class, the entire period (or until dismissed), each and every day. Our instruction WILL NOT look like it did last spring. We will no longer be video taping lessons and allowing students to log in and watch on their timeline. If students are not logged in for the class, or leave the zoom meeting early, they will be marked absent. If they come late to the zoom meeting, they will be marked tardy. Our attendance policy of 6 absences per class, per semester will be in effect for all Remote and In-School learning.

ZOOM invites will be emailed to students!

Prior to the first week of school, teachers will send out invitations for their individual zoom sessions. These will be emailed to the students. They will use these links to access remote learning lesson presentations. Students will be held in a "waiting room" until the teacher lets them into the class session. This will be our process by which we take attendance. If students do not log into the zoom session, or leave early without permission, they will be marked absent. These zoom links are private and only for MMACHS students. Please do not share them so that we can keep our presentations secure from anyone outside our system.

Laptop Checkout

All sophomores, juniors and seniors who need a laptop, can pick them up on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm in the social center. Masks REQUIRED.

Laptops WILL NOT be checked out without a completed laptop agreement form signed by a parent. (Form attached below).
