This Week w/ Ms. Werth
April 25th - April 29th
FYI - Tons of Important Information
Proctors - EOG Testing is right around the corner and we are in need of testing proctors - If you would like to take advantage of this wonderful volunteer opportunity please contact Assistant Principal Cory Trivett at cory_trivett@catawbaschools.net
PTO Evening Event – Blackburn’s PTO will be holding an evening event on Friday, April 29th from 6-8pm. Mrs. Schlagenhauf and Mrs. Ackroyd are planning performances/displays for the evening and students will have the opportunity to purchase and decorate a ‘TILE’ that will forever be a part of Blackburn’s Tile Wall.
PTO Board - Our wonderful PTO is still looking to fill some spots for the following school year. Current board members are asking for anyone interested in becoming the PTO President, Vice President, or Spirit Night Coordinator to get in touch with them (or let me know and I will forward your message along).
Math and Science
This week in math we have taken our county mandated final cumulative benchmark - we will use this data to help guide our review in preparation for the EOG when the time comes. Additionally we have briefly started our introduction to the Metric System by making our own metric sticks and discussing the correlations between millimeters, centimeters, decimeters, meters, and kilometers. We will continue this discussion/unit next week as we move into capacity and weight within the Metric System.
Also, the kids don't know yet, but the fourth graders have mastered the 3,000 objectives we challenged them to get before school let out - and we still have 6 weeks of school left! Teamwork, determination, drive, and a lot of hard work made it happen :)
This week in science students have continued enjoying the living animals in the classroom and the changes they are undergoing daily as they transition from tadpoles to frogs. We also had the opportunity to visit www.buildyourwildself.com to create our own creatures (ask your kids to show you these, all of them are saved in student's Google Drives). We will use these creations next week as we continue discussing habitats, needs, and physical and behavioral adaptations, so stay tuned for those final products sometime next week.
Also, stay tuned for some photos from our school's Cultural Day tomorrow and potential newspaper articles from both the Observer News Enterprise and the Hickory Daily Record.
