Principal's Corner
The Week Ending 8/16/19
Dear OSS Technology Campus Families,
Thank you everyone for a smooth first week of school! We are off to a great start!
Picture day will be this Tuesday, August 20th. All students must be in uniform in order to get their picture taken. Order forms were sent out this week and can also be ordered online.
Curriculum Night is Tuesday August 27th and Thursday August 29th. This is a night that allows parents to visit their students classroom and learn about the curriculum. A sign up link will be sent soon. Any student’s parents who attends, will be allowed to dress down the following Friday, August 30th.
Co Ed soccer tryouts will take place next week at the Tech Campus soccer field. 6th grade Girls and boys interested in playing must have the sport physical packet completed to attend! Tryouts are Tuesday and Wednesday after club time.
Just a reminder that parents should not be dropping off or picking up their students at the front desk. Please use the car line both in the mornings and the afternoon. There will be no pick up from the front desk after 2:30PM, 1:30PM on Wednesdays. Thank You!

Teachers pay Teachers
Many of our teachers use Teachers Pay Teachers for engaging and inquiry-based lessons. There is a schoolwide Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT) account. Parents and community members may donate to the TpT fund by sending in TpT gift cards. Gift cards can be purchased online: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Gift-Card. Parents can send in a gift card for their teacher or for the whole school account.
Fall Festival 2019 Fundraiser
Dear OSES Families,
The Free and Reduced Lunch Application for the 2019-2020 school year is now available through OCPS. All information can be found at the link below, including instructions on how to apply and answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's).
Parents/Guardians must submit the application to qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. Orlando Science Elementary is not responsible for submitting applications for students.
Note: Free and Reduced Lunch applications are updated every single year. You must reapply every year

Kindergarten
Congratulations to all of our Kindergarteners for successfully completing their first week of elementary school!!!! :) This week our Kindergarteners learned the ends and outs of our school, rules and procedures and how to be a role model student. We will continue working on these skills next week.

First Grade
Second Grade
Second grade is off to a fantastic start. Students are working hard to learn the expectations of our class and school. Classes have been doing activities that help us learn how to work together as a group.
If you haven’t already, please return the OSES Code of Conduct, OCPS Code of Conduct, Club Contract and the last page of the K-5 Specials handout.

Third Grade
Mrs. Anderson’s class spent the week learning all about our third grade classroom. We checked out new books, discovered some of the things we will learn about this year, and made some new friends! Parents, please be sure to have the remaining supplies to school ASAP, so we can begin using them in our learning! We look forward to seeing our families on Curriculum Night on August 27. A signup link will be sent home soon!
Mrs. Sokoloff’s class has been learning about procedures and expectations. We have enjoyed getting to know each other and building relationships. Our class is already reading our first novel.
Ms. Hurley’s crew has hit the ground running! We have been exploring our classroom, learning the rituals and routines that come with being a 3rd grader as well as having fun! We are looking forward to a great year together
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade is off to a phenomenal start! All fourth graders have spent this week getting to know their teachers, reviewing rules and procedures, and making some friends! Many classes even engaged in some exciting STEM challenges this week. Mrs. Colon’s class did an activity where they made towers out of index cards, and Mrs. Michaud’s class did an engineering activity where students had to create a self-standing ring out of Pringles!
We look forward to discussing the academic expectations of fourth grade with our families August 27 during Curriculum Night; please be on the lookout for a signup link which should be sent soon. As a reminder, please be sure to submit the OSS and OCPS Codes of Conduct as soon as possible, along with any other paperwork.
Fifth Grade
Fifth grade has been learning procedures and expectations for the school and classrooms. We are starting strong! We hope you will be able to join us for curriculum night on August 27th.
Field trip forms for our trip to the Orlando Rep Theatre to watch Tuck Everlasting went home on Wednesday. Please make sure to turn in those forms by August 22nd to your child’s homeroom teacher. If you would like to chaperone, please fill out an Additions application online (it needs to be renewed every year) and then email your child’s homeroom teacher.
Sixth Grade

Chess club is off to a great start. In our first meeting, we discussed the history of chess and learned about the game board and it’s pieces. I look forward to some chess competitions in the future. Please remember to pay club dues via school pay. See you next Tuesday!
In SECME Egg Drop club, we spoke about gravity and brainstormed materials to use for our egg drop. Student can gather materials from home and bring them in on Wednesday’s during club time. If you would like to donate, volunteer, or gather materials for our club, it is always appreciated. We will need to gather/buy materials and support will be needed during egg drop trials. You can email angela.dinuzzo@orlandoscience.org if you are interested in helping. You must be ADDitions approved. See you next Wednesday!
We are looking forward to starting our study of anatomy next week in Human Anatomy club! Please don’t forget to pay our club fee via SchoolPay and to bring a 1 subject spiral notebook next week!

Parents can now make FREE online payments for most school expenses online with School Pay. This includes School Lunch and After Care! Simply log into your secure online School Pay Parent Center account and pay for items including after school care fees, club fees, field trips, class fees, student fees and more. The first step is creating your Parent Center Account at schoolpay.com Please go to "Charter Schools" tab and then choose your school name as "Orlando Science Elementary School" to complete the steps for creating your parent account.
